Did some horse trading today. Got rid of four pedals (Mossky, Tone City, EHX, Donner) I was trying too hard to like and a pickup. Plunked down 35 bucks on top of the trade value and came home with this.

I didn’t know such a thing existed. So far I spent a solid hour and half just messing around with the mod stuff through a clean amp and a dirty amp with a Strat. I haven’t checked out the fuzz or delay yet.

So far I like it quite a bit, a cool feature is the ability to blend the flange/rotary or phaser/univibe together. The effects themselves are fat and chewy and earthy. They sound good through the dirty amp and absolutely fantastic through the clean amp.

I was going to write something long and detailed about this thing but figured it would be a case of “too long/didn’t read” so I’ll keep it brief.

I’ve spent a good six hours with this pedal. Four at home and two at band practice and I honestly think it’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to a Holy Grail type pedal. For me at least, everybody is different. But man oh man it’s inspiring the hell out me. Very impressive.

The demos I've heard sound great. It's a powerful multi-fx pedal. But, without presets or midi, there is no practical way to use of all the different sounds in a live situation. The Dark Side V2 has similar limitations.

If it was mounted on a tall stand, or built into a guitar, that would open up the versatility on stage. Otherwise, you have to pick a favorite fuzz setting, a favorite modulation/delay setting, and use an expression pedal.
 
All of the sounds are beyond great, really juicy and three dimensional.

There are too many options too tweak live on the fly. I use the EHX Memory Boy and Electtic Mistress and I knob twist those in the heat of battle.

The fuzz on the Dark Side seems to be the one I’ve been looking for all my life. But like all other fuzz pedals it doesn’t behave the way I want it to through a distorted amp.

The delay and mods rule too but the coordinated effort needed to change it during a set could lead to disaster.
