Lemmy is dead. RIP, Lemmy

So he learned he had a particularly aggressive form of cancer of some sort on the 26th, & the was dead by the 29th?

Holy fuck, I didn't even know that it was possible for cancer to develop that fast. Ebola, maybe. But, he was 70 yrs old- he had an amazing run. Probably packed a lot more into those 70 yrs that I could- I don't have the stomach or fortitude for a lot of things.

This is the problem with modern rock. Lemmy, Ozzie, Keef, and so many others manage to make it into geezerhood , yet these Weyland and Whinehouse losers can't get to middle age.
.
Kids these days. :old:
Well, there were Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, and others back in the day, so...

Lemmy will be missed; he was a unique personality.

"Unique in just about every way imaginable. He was a living mismatch of personality types. His music was roaring, abrasive, uncompromising, and his lyrics mostly deliberately gave no hint of sensitivity. Yet as a person he was a pacifist, a deep thinker, and a man who cared profoundly about his friends.

A 5 page book excerpt that says quite a lot about Lemmy being a really cool guy:

Some forms of cancer are asymptomatic. Symptoms only appear after the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, at which point there’s little time left. Pancreatic cancer is notorious for this.

I just learned about this on the GDP (Gretsch Discussion Pages Forum - there are a surprising amount of Motorhead fans on that forum). Bummer! It always seemed like he cheated, death, but he did smoke pretty heavily, and it sounds like he died of lung cancer. Lemmy era Hawkwind is my favorite era of Hawkwind, and I've been listening to Motorhead since the early 80s. It looks like this is the end of Motorhead. I can't see the band going on without Lemmy.

R.I.P. Ian Kilminster.

Lemmy talking about the Hawkwind Space Ritual tour (suggested live listening of Lemmy era Hawkwind - "Space Is Deep" [off of the *Space Ritual* album], and "Born To Go" [off of the Greasy Truckers Party, benefit album], which I'm listening to as I write this)

Motorhead - "Like A Nightmare"

Not much of a fan of motorhead, but have to admit that it was hard not to get a real kick out of the man.

I can't find my pictures I took with Lemmy at the Rainbow in Hollywood. I would get at least one picture a year with him for the last 12 or so years. When I took a picture of him last year he said
"What you again, fuckin hell"
Then he went back to playing his video game

My friend Al is the sound guy and guitar tech for Clutch. Earlier in the year the were in England and the airline lost Dan Maines bass.
So Lemmy lent him one of his basses
Here is Al with that Bass

True, Gary, but many from that era have survived and thrived musically. Not sure I can say the same about our new era of "stars".

I'm a bit surprised by the outpouring of Lemmy love. I had no idea he was as well regarded as he clearly was by so many. Good run Lemmy, you certainly left your mark.
