Over the years I have been gifted with a Hall of Fame and a Caverns. Both do the job well.
watching videos... I think you may be right. It sounds awesome but it’s intimidating for me. I love the idea of being able to do all that wacky stuff, but it’d be like learning a whole new instrument. I don’t know that I should justify the expense for something that may or may not get utilized.
I have watched way too many demos of delay pedals today.
The good news is the wife and I had a gig for NYE that payed really well. They weren’t doing the typical dance party thing because of Covid and no singing either. We did 3 instrumental sets at an hour and half a piece. She had her marimba. I brought the stage piano and an acoustic guitar. The little loop pedal I got for Christmas made it a lot of fun.
The moral of this story is bills are paid, I got some gig money, and a wife who has also heard bits and pieces of lots of demos today, and likes the idea of the El Capistrano because of how cool that would be to play marimba over. Probably pull the trigger on it in the morning.
Thanks all for weighing in.
Ps: @Help!I'maRock! Did a good job of talking me out of it, but then talked me into it at the same time.
But don't spend $300 just because some forum dudes say to either.
Wife likes it, go for it.
My thing is just don't buy stuff to buy stuff. We all do it. I certainly do it. But don't spend $300 just because some forum dudes say to either.

That’s good advice.
I’m actually pretty good at not doing that. Other than people letting me borrow stuff, I’ve only ever bought and sold 2 pedals and that was almost 20 years ago. (Geez I’m old)
Most of the folks I’ve known that got into buying and selling gear and chasing the toanz seemed to spend more time shopping and twisting knobs than actually playing their instrument.
In the light of day, the wife still thinks it’s a good idea. Ordering now
When it comes in, I’ll probably be looking for advice on redoing the pedal board from you jokers. Speaking of which, @Mark Wein didnt you say you were going to post a video on setting up a pedal board? Did you already do that?

What howie says.My advice is only build the board you need. You don't need to be well rounded or buy things "just in case". Dragging Pedalstar Galactica to the gig and only using 3 pedals sucks. Once you figure out what you're going to use, get a board and power supply that support it.
Agreed. But if you only need a PT nano and an Adam, don't buy a Classic 2 and a CS12.What howie says.
I would still invest in a decent power supply, though. I have a small CIOKS Adam for my little board that powers the El Cap, my tuner and up to 3 other pedals.

I have a pedal train jr with a voodoo 2. Does that work?

Voodoo Labs pedal Power 2 +? If it's a PP+ yes. If it's the original PP no, you would have to plug the ElCap's wallwart into the PP's courtesy outlet.

All pedals (except TimeLine, Mobius, and BigSky):
You can, but please take these precautions:
First, make sure the dip switches on the bottom of your Pedal Power are set to the NORMAL (9V) position. Do not subject your Strymon pedal to any voltage above 9V as doing so will damage your pedal and void your warranty.
Brigadier, blueSky, Deco, DIG, El Capistan, Flint, Lex, Ola, and Orbit all require a minimum of 250mA of current. You will need to use output 5 or 6 on your Pedal Power 2+ with the standard black power cables.
OB.1 only requires 20mA, so you can use outlets 1 through 4. Make sure to use the Pedal Power 2+, the original Pedal Power 2 does not provide enough current (mA).
A better solution would be to use our Strymon Ojai high current power supply which offers five (5) high current 9V DC outputs which can each power any of our pedals.
What other pedals are you using?
Probably my top 3 as well.My top 3 are the EQD Dispatch Master, Strymon El Cap and the Catalinbread Echorec.
Probably my top 3 as well.
the search for the perfect delay has been the most frustrating part of guitar for me, aside from not knowing how to play. I’ve tried dozens. Certainly most of them. I think my problem is that I expect it to make me sound like the guys in the demos, who are professional musicians.
So now, I use two super basic delays in conjunction. The right side of the Strymon deco (one knob) and the mojo park theatre (one knob). This keeps it super simple, and together they do the ping-y thing.

My favorite part of the pedal is the tone knob. I wish every delay had one. It’s the delay that’s on my big board. My next purchase will likely be the El Cap.I bought the Catalinbread Echorec when I started looking for a delay with more usable time than my Jaques Prisoner, which only has 300ms and doesn't oscillate. When I bought the Prisoner, those were strengths. I bought the Echorec as a cool sounding delay that kinda did everything else. I had no idea it would become foundational to my sound and would completely take over.
The interesting thing about that pedal how polarizing it is. Nobody who wants to "keep their tone, just with delay" should ever use this pedal. Instead, it should be bought knowing the buffer/preamp will change your tone in a very nice way, and that will become your new base tone. That it comes with a multi-tap delay that can self oscillate at higher settings might just be a bonus.
