Need some trade advice

Angry Amoeba
So I have an early 80's Peavey T-27 Limited. It's an H-S-S set up where the bridge pick-up can be split. It's a Fender style with a Gibson Scale. I would say it's very good condition (minor buckle rash, some chips on the headstock). There's a guy that wants to trade a Sterling Music Man Stingray and a Squier Telecaster for this. Is that a good deal?

At that grade it really depends on the actual guitars. I played a couple of Peaveys like that back in the 80's and they were decent.
I'd be inclined to say no. The guitars he wants to trade are generic entry-level guitars, whereas yours is more rare and interesting.

The Squier is a bullet series, which go for < $200 in mint condition on Reverb, and the Sterling is fetching about $300 brand new. T-27s fetch around $4-500, so you wouldn't be getting a great deal, but if the two-for-one thing works for you. I would just make sure that both of the guitars being offered are in excellent condition.

No clue on the Ibanez.

I'd only consider the trade if I really didn't like the Peavey. The Peavey is harder to find than the Sterling, and that tele is just a cheap tele.

Financially you're probably looking at an even trade 2 for 1.
Realistically do you like either of the guitars that are being offered more than your PV?

I don’t know much about the Peavey. I will say you have to be careful with the Sterling stuff. There are different levels of quality. The new Valentines, St. Vincent’s, and Albert Lees are really good but they are around $799. The older stuff and some of the other current models are as cheap as $200. I think you would have to get your hands on them to really know.

I'm usually a Squier apologist and unless that thing plays amazingly, it looks like junk.

I'd vote no.

This is probably the right answer, but I did what I did. The squier actually sounds and plays great (the frets need some sanding on the sides). The Music Man is meh.

But I turned one guitar that I never played into two guitars that I'll never play.

The tone-lab is a fucking blast. I have made over 60 custom sounds that all sound exactly like my Classic 50. :)
