Dig it! New Pickups in the G5120

Finally got around to changing out the mud buckers in my 5120 Electromatic. Replaced them with a set of Blacktop Filtertrons like they put in the 5420s. Totally transformed the guitar! Now it sounds like a Gretsch instead of a Gibson or Epiphone. Shoulda done this years ago!Absolutely love it. These blacktops are great pickups and a bargain to boot. $80 on eBay including the mounting rings, and $10 worth of ring risers from TV Jones to get the heights up to where they should be.

Back in 2008 I had one of the very early 5120s (w/the minibuckers) and could never quite get the sound I was looking for. I'm glad Gretsch has replaced them with those filtertrons, although it's too late for me!

Very nice!

I TV Jones classics in my 5120, and had the same experience. It finally sounded like a Gretsch.

Me too! the TV Jones pick-ups completely changed the tone and rocks! I also installed a Arctone Roller bridge which really helped with sustain and some slight tone improvement as well. The stock bridge was buzzing as it would not sit fixed on the mounting pegs after playing a while. One side would rise up just a bit to cause buzzing which took me a while to figure out.
Best of luck with your 5120!

White Falcon is new and its awesome. Had the 5120 for a long time and it was always a nice player, decided to upgrade and keep it . Somewhat different tones too. One can’t have too many Gretsches
