NGD...[UPDATE] so much for downsizing.

I changed the strings today, and I checked out the neck a little better. The fretboard material is definitely not rosewood. Maybe Grenadillo? It looks smooth, but it's actually a little coarse. Also has some scratches. Probably a combo of the wood and QC. Not a deal-breaker.

I've also been perplexed by the neck. It's not 50's fat, or 60's skinny. Feels a little like an SG, though not quite as wide at the nut. Measures .87-.95. My digital calipers are wonderful.

So this went to my tech, @Chad for a bass contour conversion, to rip out the PCB guts, and because there was a weird volume issue.

PCB removed but still wonky, and he realized that the bridge pickup was fucked. I had a DM humbucker that wouldn’t fit in a prior project, so in it went.

It’s a rock machine. And the new knobs make it sound better. Thanks Chad!

Interesting, I had my guy rip out the PCB stuff too. The volume on the bridge pickup would never dial down to complete silence.

He tried a hack but it didn't last long and I ended up getting a traditional wiring kit from Stew Mac.

the PCB sounds great in theory, but that isn’t the first one I’ve had to rip out of one of @Guitar Heel ‘s Gibsons. They always seem to have some kind of issue.

Those knobs remind me of the "mismatched" DeArmond Jet Star knobs.
