Recommend something on netflix...

Ok, I'm watching the Swedish/Danish TV series 'The Bridge' right now, and I have a question.

Are the languages of Sweden & Denmark close enough that people from either country can understand each other? That's what I'm getting from watching the series so far.

@Wilmer X ? @Dexter Inferno ? You guys are our resident Scandinavians…

Oh, and Sofia Helin

Yeah we can understand each others languages.

So is it basically the same language, but different pronunciations and maybe slightly different word usage?

Or maybe a bit more complicated than that?

Slightly more complicated but the languages are quite similar (and Norway have at times been under both Swedish and Danish rule, so there's that as well). All 3 are Germanic languages, so large parts of structure and vocabulary are very similar - for that reason we can also understand quite a lot of Dutch and German, even without much in the way of training.

For someone like me who speaks German and English I can usually make out the meaning while reading those languages, dutch is the easiest to make out listening to it though. Isn't danish roughly that way as well?

As for the OP, no love for " Better Call Saul"?

Kimmie Schmidt was pretty good a well (having a thing for Jane Krakowski helped a bit, I must admit) .

The Docu "McCullin" was fantastic.

I've watched a couple of episodes of "Galavant". Not great, but not bad, either. Kind of a cross between Princess Bride and Holy Grail done as a musical.

"Hell and Back" is rude and crude, but pretty funny. Bob Odenkirk does a superb job of voicing the Devil.

We just finished "The Fall". I have never watched a series with more unlikable main characters - I'm not sure why we even watched all the season. The only likable character is the serial murderer.

"Better Off Ted" is awesome if you've ever worked for a large soulless company (and I've worked for the largest and most soulless - the Federal government).

And because I am an utterly unrepentant space nerd, "In the Shadow of the Moon" and "Cosmodrome" kick ass.

I hear (haven't checked it out yet) that The Get Down is damned good.

Plus, Luke Cage coming up in a coupla weeks. Sweet Christmas!

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is fun.
Frontier Trains of India is great if you can handle hour-long shows about the poorest people on Earth (it’s kind of depressing).
Raja Rosi Aur Anya Khananiyan is cool if you like food and don’t mind subtitles.

Indeed, I just binged it last week during my commute. I was quite good. It's what I wish they would have done with the Harry Potter books instead of the Hollywood movies. So many details were left out of the Potter movies and it just grew with each movie. JSaMN has nearly everything from the book. I feel completely comfortable recommending it to fans of the book.

Shit yeah!

Agreed. But even HBO doesn’t have the budget to do Harry Potter as a TV series.

The way the movie industry is its only a matter of time before they 'reboot' Harry Potter. I would much rather have HBO or Netflix give it a go.

Season 2 of Narcos has been up for about two weeks. It’s a little slow, but I just hit episode four and it really got rolling.
