My GF and I spent the late night/early morning hours listening to nearly the whole Smiths catalog, they’ve been in constant rotation for me since the first album came out. It’s amazing what they achieved in five years, and Andy was a huge part of their sound…such a musical/melodic player.

One of my college friends played bass and was into hard rock and punk. I had a giant Smith’s poster on my wall and he asked why I liked that crap. I played him one or 2 songs and said just listen to the bass. That’s all it took to get him into them.

It's crazy to think how young they were. Marr and Rourke were both only 23 years old when The Smiths split up.

I never really thought about their age. To think they put out that body of work before they were 23 is crazy.

Yeah, I was talking about that exact thing w/ my GF…they had had a wildly successful career by the time most artists are just starting to tread water.
