Ritchie Blackmore "banned " from the HOF

while i have the deepest respect for Steve.....has has written NO new DP songs......period.
in his capacity in DP....he is a COVER guitarist.
I disagree. They've had five studio album since Steve joined the band, and much of the music is very good (in my opinion). Morse's footprint is all over those new songs.

Check out the album Bananas. It was the first one with Don Airey on keys. It's probably my favorite Steve Morse-era DP album.

That's the album 'ballad'. The rest rock out pretty well :)

If that's inducted into the HOF, then an induction is like getting a Razzie.

Blackmore was Deep Purple's guitarist, on and off, for 17 years ('68-'75 & '84-'93). Steve Morse has been Deep Purple's guitarist for the last 22 years.

Granted, the Blackmore era had all the classic Deep Purple songs.
The amount of time spent in the band is of less importance than what the band produced during each guitarist's tenure, as well as the importance of said material. Morse, much as I love the man's playing, joined too late to be part of any of Purple's important work. Now, to his and the band's credit, Purpendicular was a more musically interesting album than they'd done in many, many years, and they continued to deliver solid material, instead of just resting on their laurels.

Even so, if Purple had disbanded for good in 1993 or so, their legacy would be pretty much the same.

Or 1975...

Anyway I really love Purple, all incarnations, and am glad to see them inducted, though it should include more members.

They should include all members OR have definitive criteria, e.g.: played a primary role on at least one album AND toured with the band. As it is now it's completely arbitrary and stupid.

Sorry...lost myself there for a second. The RnRHoF is the epitome of arbitrary and stupid, so of course...

what's almost funny, is now that all this has come out, even if they changed their minds and invited Ritchie, he would likely tell them to "sot off".

Sure, although "Perfect Strangers" is such a strong tune. I couldn't imagine Purple without that classic, even if the rest of the album was somewhat meh.

And I'm very fond of The Battle Rages on, as well as the tour that followed. A strong way of ending things, for ol' Ritchie. His initial replacement was super awesome, too. I kinda wish he'd continued with the band, at least for an album or two...

I love the House of Blue Light, although I heard the Ritchie thinks it's shit, but that doesn't make the Unwritten Law any less killer.

Cov was awesome on that album, but both him and Hughes got tiresome live... Any time I watch California Jam, I'm amazed by Blackmore, Lord and Paice, but then there's "Oh bwaybeh!" and "Woooop! Woooop!". Nothing makes me miss Gillan more than that.
