Saw Trans-Siberian Orchestra

They are top notch musicians, no doubt. The show and its production are a bit over the top for my tastes, so once was enough for me. I have friends that go every year. Glad you enjoyed it. :thu:

We saw them Wednesday evening. It's something we've been wanting to do for a long time, but they usually sell out as soon as tickets go on sale.

The production is definitely over the top, but subtlety isn't exactly part of the TSO formula.

Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I could have lived with less vocal performance and poetry.

As I watched the show, I couldn't help thinking about what my millennial kids would think of it. Men and women in flowing outfits strutting and throwing their long hair around. Flames shooting. A lot of 70's rock star tropes. They'd probably see it as some sort of boomer/gen-x throwback fantasy. Honestly, I did feel like I was 16 again seeing Kiss.

I didn't understand the point of the movie. Was it a reference to something I didn't catch? Why were the women in the movie wearing lingerie-ish outfits? Seems odd given that there were lots of kids in the audience.

I didn’t follow the movie part to much or the story line of it. Caught some of the narration. Seemed like money was taken from a till, yada yada we end up in a bar where someone wishes everyone Merry Christmas and disappears in the mist. So I can only assume that somewhere during the yada yada a Christmas type miracle took place. I enjoyed the singing. One particular young lady did a song with some gospel type trim that was nice. I wish they had not done so many slow songs in a row. I saw Kiss in 2017, and while TSO’s the flames and smoke were smaller, I wondered if they may have gotten some of their stage as leftovers. The big flaming box at the back of the arena is where Paul Stanley flew by wire from and back to the stage.

We've been wanting to go for years. Sadly, Phoenix is on the "after Christmas" schedule almost every year.

This year was our 8th year to see them, it's turned into a tradition for my mother, my sister, my daughter and me to go. We missed them in 2019 due to timing, and obviously 2020 since there was no tour. Mrs Aahzz went once, it was too overwhelming for her. The Youngest Aahzz hasn't been, they have some sensory issues and we knew in advance it'd be too much for them. Those of us that go every year always love it.

All 4 of us also agree that we prefer the second set, after the story portion is done. The storyteller has a great voice and narrates with feeling, but it's just not necessary in our opinions.

The funny thing is that I also have sensory processing issues, I know where The Youngest Aahzz got theirs - in my case, concerts like TSO are SO over the top that it pushes me past the distress to a place of calmness and enjoyment - short circuits the overload :) .

Since forever I wear earplugs to concerts. Early on I found that I just don’t care for concert volume. I like the show and feeling it but not the the effect of all the decibels making my head ring. Before I would get to a point of I just need to get the hell out of here and my mind would race all over. The plugs let me relax, hear what’s actually being played and said and enjoy the entire show. Different strokes for different folks.

I almost always end up with ear plugs or toilet paper in my ears at live music events. Not so at the TSO show - I didn't think it was overly loud.

Or maybe my hearing has degraded enough that I didn't realize how loud it was.

I have a suspicion they aren't. I bet they aren't even Siberian.

They're the Florida Man Orchestra.

It wasn’t overly loud. I pulled a plug to check it out. While I probably would have been fine, I just kept them in.
