Dig it! Sentimental NGD

As many of you know, my little brother died on December 24. I decided that as a tribute to him (he was an excellent musician, specializing in woodwinds) I would find a guitar made in 1960 and name it for him. I picked up "Steve" in Sacramento today (from a young guy who has a truly impressive collection of vintage Fender offsets) and it's beautiful. It's the rather maligned Musicmaster, with a serial that puts it squarely in 1960. This thing must have been sitting under someone's bed for many years. It is absolutely clean and cherry. Obviously, with a 55 year guitar, the finish has sunk into the grain a bit (only really visible in sunlight) but there is nary a ding or scratch. It's perfect!

I Plugged it into the seller's '64 and it sounds spanky and tight. I will cherish this one and remember my brother every time I pick it up. When I showed it to my sister-in-law, she cried a bit, and was very pleased.

Cool. A tribute instrument is a special thing. I hope you really enjoy it, and it brings back good memories of your brother. :thu:

Congrats. I love those. I just took a Musicmaster body and put a tvjones in it for my last build. Those are so easy to play.

I've got one that I named and labeled in memory of my Dad. I play it a lot and it reminds me to think of him once in awhile. It's a good thing and that one's a beaut.

That's a great tribute. What a sweet guitar. Love that finish. Desert Sand, I think? May it bring you much enjoyment!
