So I guess my son is learning something in public school after all...

He just came up to my laptop and started pointing out notes in a transcription of "Flying Home" from Charlie Christian I'm working on and identifying quarter rests, quarter notes, whole rests and answered a few questions about other note values properly. I've never taught him anything about music but I know he has a music class in Kindergarten.

:msm:

Wow, he learned something at public school? Don't tell anyone or they will throw him out for being a trouble maker.
:embarrassed:

They have music in public schools there??!1? In KINDERGARTEN even?

they get an hour a week i guess. He goes to a magnet school, so even though its a public school what they get is better than the regular public schools. If we want a regular music program I think we pay for an after school version. It sounds like they are adding mandatory Piano for one of the grades next year, which I dig.

Wow... I remember being part of the magnet summer school system back in the 70's... We got to do some cool things...

It really wasn't anything I was aware of until we started scrambling for a school to get him into. We're incredibly lucky that not only he gets to go but his sister will get grandfathered in, too.

Nice, but has he learned about 'tone' yet?

He was born with tone.

Very cool....

I figured from the thread title it was probably a few choice vocabulary words. Music theory is much better.
