Aw maaan! You had to show it didn't you? I've only had a few Les Pauls, and lately I've been GASing bigtime for another one - either a Jr. (I gigged with a DC Jr. back in the day), a Special (a Special back in 1983 was the first Gibby I ever had), a Deluxe, a Sonex, or a The Paul.

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for a little while - I ended up having to sell my 1954 Country Club, and my Gibson J-35, so I could come up with the money I need for some major dental work that I have to have done (I had a crown fail on me 2 weeks ago [it snapped off below the gum line, and I had to go to an oral surgeon to get the rest of the tooth's root taken out], and I have to have an implant put in [one of the neighboring teeth isn't in good enough shape to anchor a bridge, so that option is a no go]). Oh well!
 
Sorry, but I do not believe that burst is original - even for Gibson at their worst. I have never seen a legit Gibson finish that poorly done EVER - even if it is a teardrop burst.

I had to re-read this.. My speed reading and lame brain read "One of my NEIGHBORS teeth isn't good enogh"..
Made me stop dead in my tracks.... Thought the neighbor was about to donate a tooth against his/her will..... :facepalm:

seriously disappointing all the negativity. a rare paint job, dare i say super rare, i love mine. I've only found 2 pictures of this instrument and this besides mine, the one here has the tear drop on the reverse.
This has been my workhorse for 5+ years now, shows and recording. your standard your custom your classic your damn studio AINT got NOTHING on this lil guy
yeah Tim Shaw ORIGINAL Dirty Fingers, mahogny neck n body, yeah one piece body and ebony fretboard. i recently bought a used Classic to take its place on the road, NOTHING could replace this one.
So Yeah I really REALLY love this guitar.

Welcome to the forum, Petey. Welcome.

The beauty of guitars is that there are a lot of them, and a ton of diversity available. Something for everyone, and all that. Just because a lot of us didn't like the finish on that Gibson (including me) obviously doesn't mean it is a bad guitar. I have several guitars that are great players that the forum universally hates based on looks. We tend to be really critical on just about everything, so keep that in mind when you read the comments. Post anything with gold hardware are 85% of people will automatically hate it. If you dig it, keep it and love it, who knows, that rare (and weird) finish might be ultra collectable in a few decades.

Anyway, welcome. Hang around a bit. We have a lot of nice people here.

I'm not much of a forum guy, not a lot of time from being a full time musician, hope you dont have the impression i was ragging of folks, not at all gives me the huge desire to find out more about my instrument, folks just chuck some fine things an Petey man is right there to swooop'em up. ill be around for a spell

A Sonex? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone gassing for a Sonex before. :shrug: The rest I can understand.

I've gassed for a Sonex; it was my first 'real' guitar, and while it weighs in at a calm, cool five tons, it's not a bad instrument. Unfortunately the headstock did not survive a 13 year old, was reglued too many times, and then in a fit of bizarre pique I tossed the poor thing in a dumpster in Louisville in the middle of a cross-country move. During that same trip I sold a Yammy SGV-800 for $225 (in Harrisburg, PA) and I'm wondering: was my thinking so bad that week that I might have purchased this?

No, is the answer.
 
I see a guitar and I wasn't to paint it black
