Sorry, I'm not sure what the comprehension issue here is. Let's try a numbered list.
  1. "a part of". Unless you're trying to say that Howie and I were apart from something, in which case "apart of" would still be an odd way to phrase it.
  2. Our point was that the Kennedy Center Honors award should not be held up as some sort of badge of honor, as it's been given to people of both dubious character (Cosby) and dubious ability (Joel, the Eagles).
  3. Separating the art from the artist is a matter of degree, not a black-and-white issue. The Beatles were all massive jerks, but I still enjoy their music (obviously I do, given my extracurricular ideas). None of them, however, were rapists. It doesn't matter how funny Bill Cosby is or was - I can't enjoy the work of a rapist.
  4. The Eagles and Billy Joel might as well be rapists for what they've done. So lumping them together with Cosby is not out of bounds.
  5. The topic is quite literally "The Hate Thread - list the top five bands/musicians that you just hate". The validation of art was a tangent within this thread. As such, I'm not certain why you're commenting on it at all. Perhaps you've lost your ability to focus? Note that these self-imposed rules apply only to you; I have no problem with tangents in threads - even threads of my own creation. It smacks of hypocrisy for you to contribute anything tangential to a thread, given your own rallying cry against it.
If this doesn't work, I don't know what the next step is. Infographics or some other form of pictogram, I suppose. What do they use to help the mentally handicapped grasp otherwise straightforward concepts?

TL/DR and you're myopic. I have no trouble enjoying Match Point knowing that Woody Allen has a thing for young girls. If I can tolerate Sean Penn I can tolerate anybody. I have the power to separate one's personal life from their art. You not so much.

I actually am not myopic - I have retinitis pigmentosa. But close enough, I suppose. I don't make fun of your lisp, though.

Try to focus. Distracting thoughts are not your friend. You can't get past a person's personal behavior and predilections to enjoy their art. That's the point that you've already admitted to.

I'm not sure what you're arguing against. It's okay if you give people a pass (and support them financially, too) even if they're scumbags. Not everyone has to have standards. If they did, then movies like Match Point probably wouldn't get financed. It's also not my fault that you can't seem to draw the distinction between an artist being a bit of a douchebag and being a rapist / child molester / member of the Eagles. But that's okay, Jesus said to love everyone so I suppose in the end you're right.

On a serious note - and we're getting perilously close to the two-paragraph mark here so I suppose I'd better make this quick before I lose you - you used to be a lot better at this, and frankly I'm kind of disappointed. It's like going back to play with your old band only to find they're horribly out of practice. Try to step it up, we need your vintage bullshit around here to keep things interesting. Otherwise I'm afraid to say you just don't have all that much to contribute. I'm just sayin'.
