The World Cup Thread

As much as I agree that FIFA loves everything that gets them an extra buck, I think for them this is mostly about just not stirring the pot. I doubt it makes them any money, broadcasting rights were sold well before this was decided, and a lot of broadcasters don't even do commercials during the breaks. They're just shitting their pants that saying no causes more dumb visa issues and other bullshit. If anything it's less visibility for their commercial partners when broadcasters switch to commercial breaks or pundits yapping
You're missing the part where Fox gave Gianni a bucket load of cash in a Swiss bank account

It's nice that NL is through. I think it's going to be rough against Morocco. Quite a spicy match as well considering the huge Moroccan diaspora in NL (and the NL born players in the team). Really could go either way, but against Morocco NL really cannot get away with those sloppy defensive moments.

Wow - that was a bad bit of refereeing in last night's Türkiye/US game, but fortunately it really had very little impact on the game itself. With the US resting most of its starters we again got to see why Tim Weah should never wear the USMNT colors again and why Joe Scally and Miles Robinson never belonged on the team in the first place. I hope our starters stay healthy!

It's not looking promising for Scotland, so sadly many of their fans are headed home. We'll miss them. They brought a lot of joy and created many memorable moments while they were here.

Yeah it's a shame they were in such a strong group. I'd rather have Scotland than Canada or Switzerland, they've both added absolutely nothing to this tournament other than abysmal football.

I want to say that I've watched thousands of football matches live and in person over 25 years of working for an MLS team as a referee liaison and think last night's Cabo Verde/Saudi Arabia game is one of the very best 0-0 draws I've ever watched. There was so much beautiful play and it was 100% sporting - not one player trying to magnify the result of contact or rolling around in fake agony (and very few fouls, period). Just excellent, flowing play. The ref was ace, too.

Some of my bona fides:

That's awesome man. Sure I've mentioned it in our DMs but I have a season ticket at Ibrox if you ever find yourself over here and a game is on you can have it.

Even if not I'll take you to the your, museum and then a carefully curated selection of Rangers pubs in town and out my way.

Same offer to anyone on here.

Have you watched any Scotland games?
I watched the game against Morocco, they did pretty decent. I think Morocco has a really strong team and they did a good job at keeping themselves from being overrun. I also saw part of the Brazil game, IMHO the result was pretty unfair to the game. And the fans create a great atmosphere.

Felt bad for the Iranian team when the refs removed their 93rd minute go-ahead goal after a delayed offsides call. It was a very close call on the replay. Can only imagine the level of dejection they felt after that.

Morocco look a good outfit but we did very little to look like we wanted to win.

We gifted Brazil 2 goals and it's the goal difference that did us. Ultimately we weren't worthy of going through.

Also Steve Clarke is a grade A bell end.

Ha I'd typed that ^ out and not posted it last night. Clarke has spat the dummy out and quit, he signed a 4 year deal about 6 weeks ago! Hopefully our next manager isn't as anti-Rangers minded as the wee gnome.
