Unlikely Guitars

The face of emmaporkchop
Lately I want a Westone Pantera guitar, no idea why, it's the last thing I need and it would be completely out of place with every musical thing I'm into.
There's a couple on Reverb that were apparently priced by someone after a lobotomy. And I passed on one locally a while back that was going for cheap but had some issues if I recall. And the trems look like they have more parts to them than my car.
Anyone else have an irrational desire for a guitar that is totally out of place with what they play?

One of these days I'll cave and buy a Gibson Explorer or something Explorer-adjacent. And I'll look dumb standing there with it in my living room but I won't care.

I have found myself looking at this:

Carbon fiber guitar with built-in effects that work even when unplugged, Goes for $500; not bad for carbon fiber.

I like the reverse V headstock on those Dean's. Seems to work with what is (IMO) a pretty cool guitar design.

I’ve almost bought an Albert Lee at least three times. They don’t even strike me as weird. It’s just a strat with an attitude problem.
Yeah, I don't think they're particularly weird either. I was just responding to Flam.

I'd choose an HH model though, and preferably a hard tail. I can't make peace with the idea of changing a battery on my guitar so the active singles are a no-go.

It’s the HH hardtail I’ve had in my cart several times. The battery situation is probably why I have never owned a Music Man. I’ve liked a number of Cutlasses enough to give it serious consideration. I also almost bought a Valentine a year or so ago. And the St. Vincent Goldie is my “when I win the lotto” silly splurge guitar

There was a beautiful sonic blue HH trem Albert Lee listed on Reverb within the last couple of days and the price was right. It didn't last long.

Oh, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy an Albert Lee with single-coils, and with P90s especially. And I’d doubtless like it more than playing the grotesquerie I posted.

But the question was about outliers, and that’s what came to mind — Couldn’t think of another that has 4 humbuckers and a Floyd bridge.

Its Spinal Tap is hard to love.

The disincentive is that that it was a highly limited edition, and there’s no way it hell that I’d spend that much on a solid-body, isn’t hand-crafted, and isn’t really playable for me. It’d be a piece of artwork, but a piece of artwork that’s factory-made and fucking ugly.

I'm usually pretty traditional and think modern type guitars look idiotic on me, but I would love to be able to get a Teufel Birdfish.

- Still want to build a weathered Tele with aged chrome hardware
- A Lado Earth like Adrian Smith played during the World Slavery Tour. I never really was i to pointy guitars, but this just appeals to me, perhaps for nostalgic reasons
