Weekend wrapup

Saturday was kinda nuts. Tried to play golf - it wasn't too cold, but it was really windy and my game was rusty. Only endured 9 holes of that. Then I had the house to myself all afternoon, had been looking forward to the opportunity to be noisy, but mom and Mrs. Roach encountered terrible traffic on their route in San Antonio (they were on their way to a baby shower) so I was pretty stressed about that. They did eventually get to the shower safely, so I was able to relax and play music and worked on dinner.

And for dinner - it was NPMD! Look at this beautiful beast!

Friday pm - finished at lunch time. Tried to practice new songs for band rehearsal but ended up doing a load of chores as well so was only partially successful. Watched the final of the Traitors (UK Season 2).

Saturday - band practice 10 to 2, first since our first gig last weekend. Went well despite my interrupted homework, got a few new covers mostly together which will be ironed out at the next rehearsal. Some chores when I got home, then watched some of the Jack Reacher TV series on Prime. Currently halfway through the second season and enjoying it a lot.

Sunday - More chores, started trying to look at where and whether we can go on holiday this year. The wife's new job means we are restricted to school holidays again which is a PITA as everything is way more expensive so suspect we will stay in the UK rather than go abroad.

Friday - Ended up working until about 8PM. Hot tub, guitar practice, bed.
Saturday - Worked most of the day installing a new major system update at work. This was my brainchild and I was the sole developer. And it actually works. Now comes the fun part of dealing with the dozens of additional suggestions that no one brought up the entire development cycle. Practiced guitar - hot tub - bed.
Sunday - Church - errands - a bit of down time. Started watching season 2 of The Chosen.

I was at the Rolex 24 at Daytona for the last week and a half. Always a really great time and nice getaway. This was the first year since I quit drinking so it was a good test. I made it through, but I willingly admit it was not easy. Overall a good, relaxing weekend. Now I'm doing a Joint Commission survey at work after being out. Cool!

Been feeling rubbish so not much.

Friday: few drinks with Mrs jbj then home for a lazy night.

Saturday: woke up feeling rottent. Took away my pals flooring he's ripped up and chucked it in the skip. Watched the football.

Sunday: tax return is due by the 31st so I got a start on that. Fascinating stuff.

The weekend started on Thursday where I went to NAMM. Haven't been there for at 6-7 years and it was worth my attendance even though I was grumbling heavily in my truck. Took almost an hour to get into the parking lot one block away.

Once there I zoomed through all of the places that I wanted to see. Kauer Guitars, OnSong, QSC, Music Nomad (bought more tools), to name a few. Ran into a bunch of friends that I have not seen for quite a few years.

Was great to see Doug Kauer and see his new guitar called the Gripen. It is based off of the Banshee and looks and feels killer.

After spending 6 hours there, my legs were toast, I was hungry and my day was done.

Friday - I went and played some Disc Golf and did some honey do's. In the evening, I met up with @Mark Wein and Terry @reverend1 at a Mexican Restaurant. I did not know Terry was in town as worked the Railhammer and Reverend booths. Had I known, I would've stopped by. Sorry no pics but it did happen. It was great to see these Weiners as it has been awhile.

Saturday - I picked up @baimun at the hotel and took him over to Twila Reid DGC where we played 12 holes with some of my friends. We had a blast but couldn't finish the 2nd nine as Tony needed to get back for another day of NAMM. FWIW, my ears were already toasted and a there may have been only a few more places that I would've checked out but didn't bother. Maybe next year. Tony texted me later saying that we never took any pics on the course....sigh. Getting old. Anyway @mystixboi1 modified this old pic from a previous NAMM....LMAO!!!

Sunday - I was too tired to wake up to play another round. Just stayed home and took care of things, napped and watched the Lions go down in flames - sigh. I really wanted them to reach the Super Bowl like many others.

Filed my taxes on Saturday found out I got one of my lowest ever Fed returns and i had to pay easily the most ever on state . I always have to pay state but it's only around 120...almost every yeart. I think three years i got anything back and last year was one...18 dollars I got back. this year virtually nothing changed but for some reason I owe them 629 dollars and I have no idea why

Spent most of the weekend training the dog and recording guitar. I've decided to focus on doing guitar instrumentals, like late 50s and early 60s stuff. Three reasons; it's a lot of fun, I'm really not that interested in writing lyrics, and I've got a new job that requires me to commute, so no more flexible work days for me and I guess less time for music in general. Picked up a new car that I'll be using for the daily to and fro, a Fiat 500 which is not very powerful at all but really old-school and a lot of fun to drive. Went to pick up groceries nearby, me driving and wife and dog on the front seat, the three of us in this tiny car, and then met some friends on the road who were walking their dog. The looks on their faces were priceless.
