Weekend Wrapup

Yep. Everyone was detouring to avoid it and that turned just about every major road in northern orange county into a parking lot.

I hate that road I used to live right off the freeway in Anaheim Hills and even in the 1980's it was a parking lot every Friday night.

mostly stayed home this weekend. i'm leaving tomorrow night, so we just wanted to lay low. but on Sunday, we ventured out to PS1. it's a school in Long Island City that is now owned by MOMA and houses their more avant garde installations. some of it was really weird, but not nearly as weird as last year. sparked a buncha song ideas.

Because i am using it.

The cops here have become vehicles for revenue enhancement, i'm not giving them any excuses.

One of the most coolest thingsin NJ is the way registration works for antique cars. No inspection. No registration fee (just a one time registration fee) and I can buy insurance based on what I perceive the value of the car to be. I pay $80 a year for it and told the insurance company I have $6k invested in it. If I drop another $3k into it, I just call the insurance company and add that (And $3k would be a lot of chrom too BTW).

Friday - Relaxed a bit. Grilled some Chicken Wings for dinner. Watched 'Up' with the fam.

Saturday - Up early for a run, in which my right calf got hurt again...that is pissing me off. Went home then of to a couple of garden centers to get some veggie plants. I bought tomatoes, jalapenos, purple and red bell peppers, and green beans. I also planted some cherry tomatoes and basil on a planter on the deck. The fact that I planted a garden this year means a drought. Never fails. I have a black thumb. I had to till up the garden before I planted (again) so it took awhile. I have a bit more room so I might plant a couple more of something today. Then I went shopping with Mrs D. After an early dinner I watched 'Watchmen' with a couple of the kids. That makes my bottom 10 movie list. Did not enjoy one bit. After that Mrs D went out to here a local band at a club near our house. They rocked. I had a bit too much beer. I ordered on tall Fat Tire from the tap which are pretty big here (22 oz). One is my limit. I turned around after the second set and another full Fat Tire I didn't order was there. A friend bought it for me. I felt obliged to drink it since they are not cheap. But I also ordered some chips & queso and stayed a bit longer than planned. I won't drive even remotely buzzed and Mrs D does not drive. We got home without incident.

Sunday - Up early for church. Came home, took a nap, then went and did about 3 hours worth of yard work. Our yard is getting out of hand. It needs a lot of work this year...:)facepalm:). Then I cooked dinner (grilled turkey legs & grilled corn). Then watched 'Avatar' with the fam. Good movie. Not great, but pretty good.

Monday - Up early again. Puttered around the house a bit, then went and bought stuff for a grand Memorial Day dinner. Relaxed most of the day. I did throw baby back ribs in the smoker, made some BBQ beans and fresh guacomole. The ribs took about 4.5 hours to cook. They probably needed another hour to get 'fall off the bone' tender, but I was hungry. All three rack were consumed. The weather was awesome and we ate dinner on the deck.

T'was the weekend of BBQs.
Sat. - End of the season soccer BBQ--straight burgers and dogs. And someone brought homemade beer. Pretty good.
Sun. - Neighbors came over and brought a tri-tip roast, corn, and taters. I slapped 'em all on the grill. We provided dogs for the kids, as well as adult and non-adult beverages, chips, and dip.
Mon. - In-laws came over. I did shrimp, andouille sausage, taters and corn, all grilled up and covered in cajun spices. Holy shit, it was HOT! Needed plenty of Longhammer IPA to wash it down.

Saturday we took the kids to a carnival here in Mt Prospect. It was really hot and that made the baby cranky, which wasn't much fun. Nate had a blast, though. I went on a bunch of rides with him and we played some games. He got to hang out with one of his friends, which is always fun to watch. Last year at this same carnival, he tried this little dragon rollercoaster thing, and he was so scared I had to have the guy stop it and get him out. This year, he insisted that he wanted to try it again, because he's 'six years old now' and it 'won't scare him anymore.' He went on it like 5 times. I was so damn proud of him! Then he went swimming at his friend's house with a few kids in a kiddie pool and we had some pizza.

Sunday, my parents came into town and we went out with them for the day. Had Popeye's and rode down to Dekalb so they could see where we'll be living come August. We spent a few hours walking around a completely deserted and closed up campus and then a couple more hanging out in the town and at a playground with the kids. Went back to the hotel my parents were staying in and Mrs. J ended up getting in a huge fight with my stepdad after we all went swimming. Why can't shit just ever go smoothly? She was completely justified in getting upset, but damn, does everything always have to turn into some big feud? Shit.

As if that weren't enough for one day, I come home to very close friend of mine playing the 'I'm going to kill myself' attention game on facebook chat because his crazy girlfriend is crazy and won't talk to him. Christ, Carey you dodged a bullet. Change your phone number and move on. Her own friends even freely admit that she's unstable. After a bunch of beers I got my friend calmed down, and my wife (somewhat) calmed down and got to bed around 4am.

Monday, we picked up the kids from my parents and went home. We relaxed and took a walk, then my friend came over and I made Jeremy's Fake American Tacos and we had some beers and watched the first episode of Eureka. Pretty cool show.

I'm ready for a relaxing weekend, I think.

The days were filled with yard work. I installed sprinklers around the perimieter of the house. I made a flower bed around the mailbox and fire hydrant out in front of my house. Edged all of the flower beds. Put down Mulch. Pressure washed the deck, driveway and sidewalk. Cleaned the garage (a little). Two parties, left the first one early because I was beat. The next one the guys from the band I'm in came over along with a bunch of other people and we grilled burgers and hot dogs and brats and did an acoustic jam and had a great time.
