So, the headline is that in the 18 months or so since I started to get good control over my Type 2 Diabetes, I've gone from 189 pounds to 164! (I'm 5.11')..and for the first time since my early twenties, I have a 32 inch waistline!...maybe even 30, as I've noticed for the last couple of weeks that all my 32 inch jeans/trousers seem loose. I had a 36 inch waist when I started out changing my diet.

The key was controlling carb intake..no more than 100g a day works for me. YMMV depending on activity..I do zero exercise other than walk quite a lot...at least 40 minutes a day as part of my commute at a good pace, fast enough to get me out of breath.

Best of all, I've had no diabetes medication at all for over 6 months now and my blood sugar tests last week showed as "normal"

I'm sharing this in case any of you are going through it. It CAN be done! :thu:

Sweet Mo. I lost about 30 lbs / 2 stone when I was in Saudi pretty much through not eating junk and only having my homebrewed wine to drink 95% of the time.

I'm back on the P90x and I've started taking protein shakes and creatine capsules and it seems to be doing the business. I'm only onto day 15 of this cycle but my shoulders, pecs and quads are really showing the benefits, my waist is down to 32 inches (I've been a 34 for years but 32 is about as small as I could go without being too skinny I'm 5"10 and 162lbs which is the lightest I've been in years.

My diet is OK and because I DJ Friday and Saturdays it keeps me out of the pub. Just got to try and stay focussed since I finish teaching on Wednesday so I've got plenty of days and nights to go bingeing if I feel the need :embarrassed:

It feels great getting into shape.

Congrats! I need to follow in your footsteps on this pretty soon.

Do it! :thu:

Yeah my last 2 girlfriends have said I look too skinny when I go on my health kicks and prefer me "cuddly" :gah:

I need to get back on track in the worst way. Congrats on both the weight loss and kicking diabetes in it's meathead face! :mth:

Nice! I do exercise, but spend a lot of time in a desk chair. I am in pretty good shape, but cannot seem to carve off the middle aged layer. I guess the only thing left is dietary modification. I am going to get a vitamix to make it easier to switch over types of foods, and increase veggie and fruit intake too, and so I can quickly make myself something healthy during cravings time. I would love to go from my 180 something to lower 170 something range. Summer is a good time to do it too, as my cardio exercise is more consistent than winter, when I am alpine skiing and coaching more.

Yeah, I need to get moving on this. I'm creeping up on 42, and carrying extra pounds at this age isn't a small thing in terms of health impact.

I hate getting the, "you're too thin, you need to eat more" from people. Especially folks who could afford to lose some. Is being fit or thin that out of the ordinary these days? Oh and good work on the slim down home slice.

Do it! :thu:

'grats, Mo!
especially not having to use the medication, that's superbonuscool.

I think I've put on a couple pounds since I started working again, but that'll all be muscle.
lotta heavy lifting goin' on right now.
this is a good thing.

cold probably work on this tiny spare tire, but it's tiny enough that I'm probably the only one to notice it.

quittin' smoking is the next big one...

Exercise is extremely difficult for me now. I can't lift my feet up very well. My legs are numb and weak, and now an ache runs down my left arm and my pinkie and ring finger are numb. It is looking like I will get the Dx of type II diabetes soon as well. I have restricted my calorie intake a lot, but it has not done much good so far. Will keep doing the things that I need to do to get ready to see if I can get the bariatric surgery.

FWIW, I have terrible knees from years of sports accidents when i was younger. It is very painful for me to jog/run. I have a stationary bike that seems to work really well for exercise and is not hard on my knees at all.
