Question: What are you practicing?

Whittled down my list of 'songs we ought to practice more so we can actually play them' list for my intermittent jams with a buddy. Working on big unison bends, pinky swells and such for a couple of them. Using youtubes speed options to my advantage, finally. Dialing in some good setting on my pedalsuitcase.

Mostly trying to write.
Been spending a day just with a notebook and an acoustic.
Then a day getting frustrated with Logic. Damn I wish I had the patience to even half'way learn to run a DAW. But when I try its always so inspiration killing for one reason or another.
The next day I move to the electric and a looper and see what I can do with that.
Then the next day go back to the notebook and force myself to write lyrics, or at least write something that might eventually become lyrics.
So far I got one interesting progression, some good ideas for guitar parts, the skeleton of a drum track in Logic, and a verse and chorus of mostly dumb lyrics that work as filler for the time being.
It aint much but it passes the time.
Good thing is my lungs are clearing out after being off the cigs for almost a week.
Lung capacity is up and I'm feeling like I might be able to half ass sing again.
Soon I might start working on some solo acoustic cover stuff. It would be nice to have something ready just in case thing do go back to normal someday.

Neil Young's Harvest Moon. Nothing special, but I love that song. Now if Amazon would send me that harmonica, I could try to fit that in too.

Right now with my upper back issues I'm just trying to play more than 10 minutes without my picking hand going numb. It's getting better. A few weeks ago I couldn't finish a song.

I had a pinched nerve and my hand would get numb. The massage chair at the mall helped. That's not an option right now. Neck exercises helped too.

I've been really slacking on guitar for quite a while now because I've been doing a ton of synth stuff. Decided to restring the Firebird the other day and switch back to 9's like it had when I got it... holy moly! Rick Beato was right! I was amazed at how much better that guitar felt just by dropping back from 10's to 9's. It's a totally different instrument.

Unfortunately, my playing was awful. Really awful. I'm not sure how much practice will improve that at this point either. While I'm glad to be rid of the constant arthritis pain in my hands, those two reconstructive jobs from 2018 left me at a serious disadvantage in terms of strength and dexterity. I rehabbed them as much as they're gonna get. I may be able to get a little better than I am now, but the limitations are significant. It's a reality I have to accept. So for now I'm going to focus on simply staying active and playing daily.

The fuzz guitar solos from The Carpenters' 'Goodbye to Love'! I've been meaning to learn them for decades, finally got around to it. Yay for quarantine, I guess.

I learned the 1st solo from 'Goodbye to Love' yesterday, and started on the 2nd. I'll try and get the 2nd solo down today, but there's quite a bit to remember.

One of these days I will learn a fingerstyle version of Superstar by The Carpenters.

I am not on a forced staycation...I am still forced to go to work. Being smart but not panicking.

Side question: Where did rev find that video of the hipster doing the Little Sister intro?

I'm just working on tunes for my live casts and general practicing at this point. When I finally get to play gigs again I want to be a better musician.
