We saw a coupon for a local restaurant that offered a complete Turkey dinner with all of the fixings. We called and asked if they would deliver. They would after we explained why.
So, we bought the dinner and got it in the form of a gift certificate.
Then my wife went to our grandkids' school and asked the principal to get that certificate to a family in our community that needed it.
The restaurant was really cool. There were limitations to what went with the meal: pick this OR that. They waived all that and included everything.
They also offered soup and lasagna on their dime for any other family we could find.
The school was cool because once the idea made its way around amongst the staff, they managed to cover the same meal deals for five more families.
We did the gift certificate because that gave the recipient the option to pick it up and remain anonymous. Only the principal knows the families specifically.
She did let us know that the family that got our certificate was stunned. Both of the parents are on disability from an accident a few years ago. So, not only is money tight, the work involved in making a big meal like this is more than they can really cope with. They could do it if they could afford it, but it would take all of their energy.
I enjoyed that because not only did we help someone in need, we supported a local business. Which as it turns out, is owned by people that used to live a couple of doors down from us and across the street.
Besides that, we got the grandkids the Dash and Dot robots from
www.makewonder.com. It will teach them how to program while they are having fun. The best part is that they had to leave them here for me to figure out and then teach them. Now that I've got them set up, I'm pretty sure they'll pick it up quicker than I. I'm having fun with them in the meantime though.
It looks like I need to get them a newer tablet than they have because these robots work via Bluetooth 4.0.
