What's the difference b/t a wood burner and a soldering iron?

No, that's not a setup for a joke. I was looking at getting a woodburner to add some detail to a toy I built for my kid, but in doing some online shopping, they look exactly like my soldering iron. Enlighten me before I spend my $15.

That's distressing, because that would mean my soldering iron gets hotter than the wood burner, and I couldn't get it to burn the test piece of wood I was using yesterday.

there are quite a few different wattages for soldering irons. i've seen them as low as 15 watts. mine is a 100 watt gun, and i'm pretty sure it would burn wood.
just sayin'
 
Wood burners generally have more types of customizable tips and adjustable settings for heat. But then again, so do better soldering irons. It's more or less the same thing sold to different markets.

Been awhile since I messed with either, but wood burners are usually a good deal hotter than soldering irons.
 
Regardless of the differences in heat, I wouldn't try to solder anything with the same tip you've used for wood burning. I'd imagine the contaminates from burning the wood would cause contaminates in the solder joint. Likewise, if you're burning wood with a tip you've used for soldering, you'll probably end up with some solder in the burned wood.
