Newsflash! The big HC upgrade is coming on Thursday...

yeah, i know who he's talking about. dude also makes copy guitars for his friends. not sure if he includes the logos, but he's definitely copying headstocks.

He went on about finding a bunch of old Gibson headstock veneers that authorized repair shops used to get. I guess he got them at an auction or something. He built a couple of SGs and a Jr I believe and used them. On one SG, he went so far as to research a serial number with a pelham blue paint job and put it on his guitar. Quite the guy to be talking about me breaking the law.

Wait... was this Roman, or the fanboy?

Yeah, I called him out on it in his build thread. Funny, he doesn't seem to like me much. Go figure.
There are plenty of ways to build replicas without making something that will sucker some poor guy in down the road. Sign the damn thing on the back, put a note inside the pickup cavity, something...

Fanboi. He's a good builder, too. I don't understand the whole building the fakes business. He makes statements like "It's no different than copying the Mona Lisa in art class" or "I'm not selling it, so it's cool" and whatnot.

People remind him that the friend he made the guitar for might not be so "ethical."

and that's the whole point of it. i might make it for you and you might love it until you die. but somewhere along the way, it's going to change hands and that person won't know it isn't a real Gibson/PRS/whatever. so why bother?

I do have to add that Live Ruckus attempted this same upgrade last week and completely lost their database, so they are starting over from scratch. No posts, no forums, no nothing.

Looks like that may be HC's fate as well. HCWSOD when I tried to go there today.

Sometimes fresh starts are a good thing.
