1. it doesn't have a bright switch. you'll need to clip a cap inside so that dirt pedals don't sound harsh.

2. the stock tubes and speakers have generally been terrible.

3. they have poor resale value, so you're better off buying a used one instead.

4. any number of kits will have higher quality components, sound better, and cost the same or less.

5. get a silverface instead

6. fuck it, just buy an Allen Encore like i did. :embarrassed:

See, that's the kind of info I need. :)

The red one has a slightly upgraded speaker, a Jensen P-12Q.
Tubes and speakers are replaceable, but have to be factored into the overall price.

The Allen kits are just a touch above my budget (forget the built ones), and I don't see having the time to build one.

buy used, possibly one that's already been upgraded. clip the cap if it hasn't already been done.

also, Allen amps have atrocious resale value. i'll never sell mine. i sold my "vintage" Fenders instead. but you might be able to take advantage if you can actually find one.

After wanting a drri for, ever, I got one.

After owning it and playing it a while, I kind of got tired of it and traded it. It just didn't have a vibe, alive, feeling to it. Can't quite put my finger on what it was, but I just stopped playing it.

Those allen amps look incredible.

I never liked any of the DRRIs that I r played through. And my 71 deluxe is a total mutt of an amp.

Simple Logic

Does that amp work the way you want it too?

a) If yes, buy it.

b) If no, forget about it.

If I was going to get one, I would drop the extra 10 for the red one. I had one years ago and it was too harsh sounding for me. It had that ice pick in the ear sound to it.

I learned how to service mine by reading and just telling myself some monkey with a lunch box built it....I sure as heck should be able to fix it. LOL!
