I'm very late to Glen. I was aware of his career to a certain extent but the wrecking crew stuff I've been reading has given me a much better appreciation for who he is.

I remember Glen from early the early 70's variety show he used to be on. I used to watch those shows as a kid. Same era as Carol Burnett, and the Andy Williams specials. Same era as seeing the Osmonds as kids, Jackson 5 on TV, and the Karen Carpenter singing in a frilly white dress. A very different era for TV.

This is a number I remember.

I think I remember this episode too.

So he is not doing well I gather? (Can't play video clips here)

I remember him from way back in the late 60s when I was just a little shaver - one of my first memories of seeing someone playing a guitar, and thinking, "Hey - that's cool."

Holy shit... smokin' hot daughter and banjo player?

His 2012 Grammy Awards tribute and performance was memorable. I think his last show was Nov 2012. It's a shame that he has Alzheimer's.

My mother is a big fan and I heard a lot of his music growing up. To be honest, I never really liked his music. But, I gained an appreciation for his talent when I realized he was a monster on the guitar. Even diminished with Alzheimer's, he still seemed to be able to lay down some great licks based on YT videos. His story is an odd mix of tragedy and triumph at this point.

He has Alzheimer's Disease in the early stages, so he was doing one last tour while he still has most of his facilities.

I had a couple of his albums during the time of "By The Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Gentle on My Mind." He lost me with "Rhinestone Cowboy." I watched his show and was always impressed with his talent.

His goodbye tour ended last year.

This version of "Wichita Lineman" with Stone Temple Pilots kicks ass.

Surprisingly (because I've always had a soft spot for country) I've never been a big fan, but it is sad to see that someone with such obvious talent will be losing those faculties incrementally.

Glen Campbell was a studio musician as well as a solo performer. He played on many of the Monkee's albums, for example.

Pretty good ride, Glen. Three talented, loving children assisting elegantly with the most graceful dismount from a renowned career, ever.
We all should be so lucky.

:(

I got to see one of his last performances. October of 2012. He had a few slip ups, but for the most part was a very amazing concert.

Holy balls - my wife and I had the same exact conversation at breakfast this morning

As far as GC goes, as popular as he is/was, he, like Buck Owens, Roy Clark, and many others of his era did not get quite the level of appreciation as they deserved. GC was also a fringe Beach Boy, and was almost a permanent member before he decided (probably wisely) to pursue his solo career. Also, that unfortunate little double-career (almost) suicide derailment with Tanya Tucker put a huge blemish on him for awhile.

I was never a huge fan, but my dad was. I did appreciate his talent, though. Very much a pity about the Alzheimer's; at least he was able to go out performing, with his family around him.

i used to watch his tv show in the 70's also......always liked his playing and humor. i remember that he had roy clark on one time.....and they got into a REAL banjo duel that was nothing short of spectacular.
