WTF: 33 Years Later...

Something similar happened to me as well but it was my uncle who passed around 1990. I ended up finding my other uncle who was the executor of the account and the only one who can process this transaction. Needless to say I am out of the loop now. Was hoping for something but as it comes in fast, it went just as fast.

Looking over the paperwork, I have to provide my brother's death certificate, and both parent's death certificates along with a bunch of other information by June 4th or it goes to the state. o_O I don't have any of those things.

I had to do the same thing in a similar situation and I did have those documents. But, I had an additional document excluding me from my parent's will, executed by their attorney at my request, while they were alive. After their deaths (9 months apart), somehow that document didn't legally get factored in and I had to untangle the resulting confusion. I finally got my younger brother (the brains of the outfit) to sort the benefits amongst 4 siblings with my exclusion. I've got my own estate sorted and tested already leaving beneficiaries little need to speak or push buttons. A poorly designed will can be a real Hotel California for the beneficiaries.

Yeah, just try navigating it WITHOUT a will. My wife and I did that twice, 10 months apart, for her father and mine. The only real saving grace (if you want to call it that) was that neither had much of anything to leave.
