Are these easy for you to play at speed?

If so, congratulations!..they all severely kicked my ass this weekend. It's been a while since I've done any drills of this type..and boy it showed. Still, after a good 40 minutes with the metronome on a depressingly low setting it all got a lot better. A really good workout. Strict alternate picking throughout!..use your third finger and pinky for the 13/12/13 pedal point in the first two. As a bonus, the first two sound great in Yngwie style leads :rawk:..the third one is a really good string skipping workout and also works in a penta-wank solo. I much prefer drills that are actually useful.

I don't have a guitar at home this weekend...I'll give them a try on Monday. What tempo did you get them up to?

I figure when I wank for 2 hours, I probably accidentally did each of those once!

I'll try later... Drills are not my thing...

I can get them clean at 120..4 notes per click. I'm fairly pleased with that as I could barely do them at around 100 yesterday. I'm aiming for around 144 though :embarrassed:

I might actually be able to get them faster using economy picking on the string crosses..but I don't like the sound of that as much as alternate picking which sounds more like a machine gun...well, when Paul Gilbert does it that is, me, not so much. :embarrassed:

I can't do much fast on the guitar except for strumming or hammer-ons and pull-offs. I've never tried to work on my speed. Guitar is my main hobby, but I'm in no danger of going pro. :embarrassed:

OK, I just took 10 minutes and worked on the first one... I started to get it... It's a good exercise for pinky control!

Yep, I thought my pinky was ok until I tried the first two drills....definitely seen an improvement already! :rawk:

I also took the first 2 drills and started on the upstroke, in a sense starting the bar on the 2nd note for a different feel...

Definitely a cool drill, and something I have never done before... Give me another few weeks at it...

I'll play with these tonight, but my initial reaction is they'll whoop me. As I often say, my pinky is much like the letter X, it is for the most part useless and should rarely be used.

OK, I can now pretty much do the first two drills error free to 90 BPM, almost error free at 100... Past that, I get pretty sloppy... I pulled off a few runs at 120, but that gets rough...

No. I am a very very slow guitar player. Whenever I try to play fast I end up playing some scale pattern starting on an avoid note or something awful.

I'm not able to play much of anything very fast, I got them to about 90 within a few minutes, which I consider good for me, because my max on most things where I pick every note is about 105, maybe 110 on a really good day.

I've been playing almost all acoustic lately, I'm not sure if that hurts or helps on something like this. It seems to help my picking, but it's been at least a month since I tried to play anything as fast as I am able.

I got them up to 120 just now. I've been doing a bunch of technique stuff with a student so my hands are a little blown out..I'll try again throughout the day...

:thu: :rawk:..I seem to have peaked at 120..even just up a bit to 122 sounds like I'm drowning. :embarrassed:..I'm going to leave it for a couple of days and then go again..sometimes that works..you kind of make a sudden leap.

16ths at 120....ain't going happen...I'm old and slow

For 16ths I can probably manage about 90bpms I can get a bit faster with straight 8th notes cause its a bit easier (for me) to hear them since I have trouble countin one-e-and-a-two but not so much one-and-two...

Looks like a good exercise to add to my routine though...every little bit helps

I pulled off about 4 or 5 in a row yesterday, cleanly, at 130 BPM... Each day I practice it for about 5 minutes... I'm aiming for 170 BPM, which I pulled off almost once...

are you doing these as 8th notes or 16th notes?

I'm going to take another what at these today and see if I can get past 120bpm as 16th notes.
