Used to like both quite a bit, but id say that right now I play REM maybe a few times per year (Nightswimmer, Daysleeper) and U2 never.

So REM.

Both have annoying lead singers that get on my nerves after a song or two.
But overall I'll take REMs jangly guitar over U2s dotted 8th delay whacka whacka.

Both were good through the 80's but I think U2 did better in the 90's. I have a soft spot in my heart for U2's Pop album because when I bought it I had just come down with a good springtime cold and I was on the cough syrup , allergy pills and weed the first few times I played it. Also Bono might (might) be slightly less annoying than Stipe.
*edit* I think by "doing better in the 90's what I mean is U2 was a bit more progressive with their sounds incorporating dance grooves and stuff where as REM kinda milked the tail end of grunginess 90's

I'll take things only white dudes between 30 and fifty can tell apart, Alex.

I laughed !!

U2 wins this with Joshua Tree alone. Come on people.

Some time when you can crank up the volume, put on Bullet The Blue Sky and let it rip. You're welcome.

U2 because of The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. You're gonna crash hard eventually when you go bombastic, but these are still great albums, I think.

I know people love to hate on U2 but those are great albums.and because of 2manband I have been listening to Zooropa the last couple days and really enjoying it. I kinda missed out on it when it came out cuz i was fully into teh grunge at the time so I have no baggage tied to it like REM or Nirvana of that period. It's a good album. I always kinda liked PoP too at least a few songs but that was the end...speaking of "baggage tied to albums" I remember getting PoP right when I had a springtime cold so I was heavily on cough syrup, allergy pills and weed and PoP was sounding great , really great at the time :embarrassed:

I kinda get it but I'm not feeling the hate myself. I just think the songs got a bit samey after AB, and Bono's speeches with the moaning after each sentence annoy me to the point where I'm not paying attention to what he's actually saying.

:embarrassed:

Have you read Bono's poem for Ukraine? It's AMAZING.

Plus he's been a very Irish part of our lives.

Whilst patrolling the streets of West Belfast looking for scummy evil terrorists in days gone by, Id see little girls doing that type of dancing. There'd just be two or three of them dancing about.

Great to watch and usually better than that Michael Flathead or whatever he's called.
