Book jam - what you all reading?

Well, the Jewel book started strong, but got very preachy and touchy-feely by the end. I wanted a biography and got a cut-rate self-help book instead. I'm a bit disappointed.
 
Just finished "The Boys in the Boat" about the University of Washington crew team that competed in the 1936 Olympics in Germany. Lots of good anecdotal history of the western United States at that time, and Germany as it led up to the Olympics and war. I recommend it.

I just finished Pandora's Star recently too. Great stuff. Looking forward to Judas Unchained.

Anathem was a great book.
I loved how you don't realise till half way through that they are aliens

I want to read ALL the Culture novels. Related to Anathem, far as the alien's part, I think somewhere in the beginning he says that Arbre (? too lazy to get up and find book) is like, but not, earth. Bullshytt aside, I figured out a few sly jokes in the book, for example, a certain despised group between the cloistered and those outside the walls.
 
Started "Killing Pretty" Wednesday morning . . . finished it yesterday before work was over. What? It's been slow in the office. Anyway, it's the latest in the Sandman Slim series and it kinda feels like Kadre is trying to shift focus from Sandman to Stark and turn him into a legit P.I. I'll keep reading them because it's a nice distraction, but this one had less whoa factor than some of the previous ones.

I just started reading the first book in the Longmire series, 'The Cold Dish' - by Craig Johnson. Not bad so far, I'm about 2+ chapters in.

Any other murder/mystery series/authors that are maybe a cut above most of the genre?

I expected it to be weird, but damn. Not just weird, totally disgusting in some parts. I'm reading this stuff on the way to work, and thinking if the other people around me knew what I was reading, they'd kick me off the bus.
