It's called Murder of the Magi. This is in the prototype stage at the moment and is a major part of his third year at university.

If anyone is interested, he's got a short playable demo that he would appreciate some play testing feedback on before they go into the production stage in a couple of weeks. He's had some family members and fellow students provide feedback but any input is welcome. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll pass on a link to download it.

The game is in a zip file, so you'll need to unzip it and find the exe in a folder called WindowsNoEditor under where you unzip it to.
It's targeted at Windows 10 64 bit and so far has only been run on PCs with dedicated graphics so any feedback on performance on machines with integrated graphics would be useful.

That's super cool! I wish I could check it out, but I'm all Apple here.
If my son has a minute, I'll see if he wants to check it out--he's got a Windows laptop.
 
2 hints as they got left out of the game:

'Q' swaps spell types (once you get them).
Left mouse button casts spells (again once you get them).
