Hybrid Picking witih your pinky.

Multimeh
Has anyone successfully trained their pinky to claw chords and arpeggiate while hybrid picking. I always mess around with three note chord clusters using a pick and middle and ring fingers, trying to find nice sounding chord melodies, and the pinky would help keeping track of what strings my fingers are on.

I've been trying and its difficult to get the pinky to get an even attack and play in time at once. It seems to be either or right now.

I never hybrid pick with my pinky, because I anchor with my pinky. Actually, I'm a bit rusty at finger picking in general, but I used to be proficient with the rest of my digits.

My fingerpicking in general sucks..I've been working on it..but it's slow going. Though, all the exercises I'm working on do utilise my pinky quite a bit..so hopefully it'll all come together. I'm working with Eric Roche's "Acoustic Guitar Bible" and also the excellent "Pumping Nylon" book. At the moment, when I work with those books, I feel as though I've been playing guitar for a couple of days, rather than several years.

Andy Summers does that to some extent, as far as I know.

It's not very common in most fingerpicking styles that I'm familiar with. It's hard to build up strength with the pinky, and it shares a tendon with the ring finger, meaning true independence is not possible.

I'll occasionally do it and I'm always grabbing chords with pick, middle, ring and pinky but it's not my strongest finger...

The pinky on my right hand is much like the letter X. It is for the most part useless and should rarely if ever be used.
