I'm a Grandpa!

Gary Blanchard

beloved, local musician
My grandson, Damian Michael, was born at 5:30 this evening. All are doing fine. Since it is also my anniversary, I should be able to remember his birthday

I'll have to find out if I spelled the name the right way. With my son, you can't be sure.

Gee, his initials are DMB - just like a certain band.

Congrats grandpa.

I have an easier time remembering my kid's birthdays than I do my anniversary

Congratulations!!!!! Now you can hold a baby when you want, then pass the baby back to the parents when it requires effort. In a few years, you can spoil the crap out of that grandchild. My dad takes great pleasure in giving my kids candy and ice cream, knowing he doesn't have to get them to bed. He says it is about the best thing he has experienced in his life.

This.

It's even better when you can get the kids to do stuff they don't do at home, like sleep all night when they come for a sleepover.

I know I remembered lots of things from my early childhood that were long forgotten, but came back to mind when I had kids. Old books, mostly, but also the context of my mom reading them to me. I must have been 2-3 years old. I hope I remember them again, and as vividly, when I have grandchildren. Maybe the only true fountain of youth. Fleeting, for sure, but great memories.

Aside from my Mom, my maternal grandfather was probably the most important and influential person in my life. And here's the kicker: I don't think he put any extra effort into it. He was just being himself. Congratulations, and enjoy!
