iRig & Amplitube...what a RIPOFF!!!

I've been interested in these since they came out. I figured it would be a sweet setup and would easily fit in my guitar case. Guitar Center had them on sale for $24.99, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Came home, and went to download Amplitube. Uh-oh...there's a "free" version, and a paid version at $20. Opted for free to try things out. Seriously? $25 for a cable plug in, that includes NO software price reduction? The free versions of Amplitube are an absolute joke. One amp model...that's it. And, to top it off, if you want to buy Amplitube for your iPad, then use it on you iPhone...yup...you get to PAY FOR IT AGAIN!
So, I tried the Peavey veresion of Amplitube, "Amped"...same deal...you pay for each effect, and each amp. LAME! It works with Garage Band, but has noise issues...
This iRig seems REALLY noisy. Tons of noise...and static that sounds like there's a bad cable in the mix. Changed cables...no change in problem. Am I doing something wrong? Probably gonna take it back for a refund. $25 for the iRig, plus $40+ to get the software on my phone/ipad. Not worth the money, IMO. (and P.S....why can't I get the return key to work here?

Yep my free version of amplitude that came with my Mustang was dismissed as a joke after 5 minutes. Why would you need that when your already playing through a damned good modeller to get to your computer anyway?

Amplitude is a total joke. As for paying for everything twice, welcome to Apple.

I just leave mine in my gig bag in case of emergencies on gigs. Just never got that excited about it once I had it.

I have Amplitube for the computer. The clean is as good as an amp. Distortion, what I've found so far, is not good. Love, love, love a bass through it.

IK multimedia is really helpful. Contact customer service. They bend over backwards, give you tons of shit for free.

Yeah... I got an iRig for christmas and was pretty disappointed. I downloaded the Fender iRig software and got a decent enough practice amp (that's what I took with me to Florida... a pair of headphones, my iPod, the iRig and a cable) but it was pretty sad compared to what they make you imagine you're getting.

Get the guitar amp app from studio devil. Sounds good and comes with a delay. What more do you need. Plus it sounds good but it's not super duper high gain. It's something like 4 bucks.

I had problems when I used it with my iPhone 3S. At the 2011 NAMM, I mentioned the issues I had with it to IK Multimedia and never revisited it until recently. They said to give them a call if you have any issues.

With my iPhone 5, the iRig works so much better. The noise I had before with the 3S is not present and there is no lag in the program. I only use the free version and makes for a great practicing tool. The jamming module is what I like the most about it as I can slow down passages from tunes and work on it.

I use JamUp Pro and like it better than Amplitube. They have a free version that is much better than Amplitube's free version. I can't remember how much I paid for the Pro version but it was on sale and wasn't too bad. Lots of expansion packs though can drive up the cost but they do sales on that stuff from time to time.

Yup - the iRig was a big letdown. The new "HD" version is coming out (makes full use of the 30-pin/lightning connectors); I wonder how much THAT software is going to cost.

Line 6 went against the "get the basics cheap now; pay through the nose for add-ons later" model - you pay like $70 up front for the interface, but download the software suite for free. Too bad the interface gets bad reviews; I don't think it's done very well for them.

just called "customer service"...was sent to voicemail. So, I called back (no 1-800 number, by the way) to talk to tech support...no answer there, either. Message said to just look at the FAQ section of the website. This was simply a last ditch effort before returning this thing...too bad, as it's a stellar idea... however, no service...no sale...

is there another guitar interface out there that actually works? This iRig had weird noise and static in the line, and I'm not paying for Amplitude. Some of these others sound promising, though. How is the Peavey interface?

By the way, received a "canned" sounding email from their Tech Support dept. Told me I might ought to try putting my phone in Airplane mode...that it might help a bit... Sorry, if I was running an iPhone 3, I could understand some odd issues, but I'm running a new iPad and a new iPhone 5... Not such great service so far...

The HD version of the iRig looked pretty promising when I played with it at NAMM this year but you're dealing with the same company and software. And a higher price tag.

The thing that put me off was that Help!I'maRock! asked me to look at their 4 button bluetooth pedal and the damn things wouldn't work in the booth or would freeze up. WHen I asked I was told that they put the prototypes out for the show, which I thought was asinine since they made it look like they were the production pieces that we could buy in the store.

IIRC, Kerouac really likes the Apogee interface; that's about $99 though.

The problem with the iRig and the Peavey, among others that use the mic/headphone jack, is that there is a tendency to get unwanted feedback, even at lower volumes. My take is that it just doesn't sound that good.

Bummer....

I actually don't have the Apogee interface, but I've used it. Apogee is also rock solid with any sort of Apple software. The fact that you can also use a microphone if you want is a bonus!
