Question: just curious, how many folks here have NEVER taken a guitar in for a set-up?

When I was taking lessons, my guitar teacher would set them up and teach me what he was doing.

Since then, the only time I've taken a guitar for a setup was when my PRS needed a fret dress and I was too scared to do it myself.

Nowadays I'd even do a fret dress myself.

I do my own.

And all of the FR fear. It isn't that bad. I learned as a teen through trial and experience even before the plethora of internet how-to's.

The store I go to gives me free setups once a year if I buy the guitar there. All I have to pay for is strings.

Yeah, I can change strings on a Floyd just as fast as I can on a hardtail. You just have to have an allen wrench is all.

A long, long time ago, I had a Strat trem tweaked, a partial refret done, and I got a new saddle and nut made for an acoustic. Since then,. I've done everything myself, including repairing a broken headstock on my acoustic, and pretty much everything you could imagine restoring my Hofner. I kind of enjoy it, but also I have a real problem paying someone to do something I know I can do myself (that would be different if I had more money and less time).

messedup0 you can take guitars in for a set up??? damn why have I wasted so many precious minutes of my life doing it myself???
