Northeasterners: What say you of this Mother of all Storms approaching?

Glad to hear the worst of it is likely over. Stupid me yesterday called Dahlquist/Regnar about finally repairing my old stereo speakers I have wanted to repair for a while. They are located in Patchogue, Long Island. The guy called me back and was getting ready to leave, but was anxious to have my business, and said go ahead and send my drivers in for repair. (they got old and brittle since 1985, and the kids killed the foam surrounds when they were little a few years back).

I will get around to sending them in soon, but I don't expect it is any rush. I am sure they are closed today too. I hope all of you guys get back to regular life as easily as possible.

They don't usually open until after Thanksgiving, and I doubt this year will be any different. I mean, we're getting snow now, but it's supposed to be in the 60s by the end of the week.

The ski resorts here rely on artificial snow for the base. To my knowledge, they haven't even started making that yet, since the temps haven't been below freezing even in the mountains.

That said, we rarely get any accumulated snow outside of the mountains this early in the year, so if this is any indication, this year the ski resorts might be able to make up for all the money they didn't make last year when it never snowed.

Snowshoe turned on they're guns yesterday. I saw a video they posted online, it didn't say if they were opening up early though.

Thanks Prages. I think we might just hang till Saturday. Hi Dave. Yes in Florida. We got here Friday morning.

Well, it looks like my forecast was wrong.

Now, for Beckley, WV they are saying:

Today: Blizzard, high of 34 low of 32. 5-8" accumulation expected today with another 4-6" tonight.
Tomorrow: Rain/Snow 36/32. 1-3" during the day, 2-4" at night.
Thursday: Rain/Snow 38/30
Friday: Partly cloudy 38/28
Saturday: Partly cloudy 44/33

That might put a bit of a damper on the turnout for the Halloween gig. Or maybe not....

What a mess. No power still so cell service will have to do. Last night was scary and didn't get much sleep. I heard trees going down in the woods across the street. Penn State main campus is open but no way I was going to work today. Had to help farmer up the road to corral some cows that got loose....part of his fence was damaged when a tree fell. Time to get out the chain saw and cut up some of these limbs that fell down. I guess I got off ok compared to what the coast of Jersey and New York got.

There must be a point where you are giving advance warning that doesn't move into "creating a panic" mode, but the news media will proabably never find it. :ack:

We were in our local Wal-Mart yesterday (there aren't many other places to shop here) and not only had they sold out of bread, batteries and flashlights, they had sold damned near every candle in the store, including those battery-operated flickering candles that give no real light. I should have checked the stock of Kool-Aid.

Wow. Fire in Breezy Point, Queens destroyed 80+ homes.

oh wow. that completely sucks. WIll the place survive? :(

that's a very good question. at this point, the prudent thing for him to do is collect the insurance money and peace out. OTOH, this will be the second disaster the place has weathered (no pun intended) and he takes pride in being a stalwart of the community. been trying to reach him, but he lives right on the water in Freeport and the entire south shore is without power.
