Pen and paper content! Decided on an rpg system to play

Pathfinder. I picked up the core rules and the beginners box. High quality stuff! And it really reminds of advanced D&D. Looking forward to playing a campaign again.

Yea nerds!

I never really had the opportunity to play D&D or anything like that growing up. Me and a buddy would roll up characters in TMNT, but didn't really have any rpg experience, so that's about as far as it went. :embarrassed:

Have fun! :)

Oh man, you would dig it. It's fun. I'm rolling up a character tonight, I'm excited. Lol

Pathfinder is supposed to be awesome, but I gotta admit that I balked a bit at the entry price.

It's basically a fix of D&D 3.5 and if we had been playing that version previously, we would have made the jump. We were still playing 2e, so we jumped right to 4e and now I can't WAIT to jump to 5e.

I play magic and warhammer...what's one more incredibly expensive game? Lol. The price is crazy though. I bought the core rules in PDF. Saved $40

I couldn't justify getting into 4e...for two reasons. First, 5e is coming so i didn't want to buy "dead" books and second, no one plays 4e around here.

On the other hand, there is a thriving pathfinder community at my local game shop. That made my choice a lot easier.

Hopefully your local game shop is more welcoming to outsiders than mine is. Unless you're there a couple of times a week the other players won't give you the time of day.

It's a great shop...although I am there a couple of times a week. I talked to the pathfinder group and they were awesome. Gave me a lot of advice and invited me to "newb" night.

I know the kind of shop you are talking about though. The attitude is always dictated by the owner and/or manager.

I don't spend money or time in those shitholes.

Actually, the owner is a nice guy. But he's kinda spineless and lets his "customers" run wild. I tried to sit in on a Pathfinder game and they said no... owner was right there and just looked away.

Wow. What an IDIOT! He let those players cost him money. That's so incredibly stupid. Those guys would get tossed from the shop I go to. That's sad.

There is a really great shop across town, but due to my work schedule I just can't make it to games there.

That's too bad. I'm really lucky with the great shops around here. I actually work from one a few times a week. It's a coffee house/game store called Enchanted Grounds.

"I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob."

Dunno, just seemed to fit

Oh it fits! Lol! Love not having to work from my office (although I'm here now for some ridiculous reason)

Pathfinder?

Never heard of the game, but it sounds interesting. I'll ask my opera-singing niece about it. She and her husband play D&D and have alot of gaming nerd friends.

I got the hardback core rules today. It's a beautiful book.

J...pathfinder is d&d. It's awesome.

So, Pathfinder is really just D&D 3.0 ?

I have some friends that want to start D&D'ing. I have all of the Advanced D&D stuff from the early '80s, as well as the 2nd Edition stuff from around 1990 +/-

Would Pathfinder really be any better?

Pathfinder is D&D 3.75.

The crew that did 3 and 3.5 parted ways with WOTC and did Pathfinder while WOTC switched 4th Edition.
