R.I.P. Callie

Thanks everyone , you're all great
It's funny how when I had the two dogs (for a little over a year and a 1/2) how they would team up and "work me" for things like food or waking me up every morning (for food). I always figured Sonny was the instigator being a young pup but it turns out Callie was the one I think she initiated the ritual (every morning and every feed time) because Sonny was actualluy woken by me this morning... : o

She was smart.
Let the noob get the blame.

Once again sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your lose, its been 5 yrs since I put my Dussa girl down. It take a while but time does help.
I sure do miss her.

How is Sonny taking it?

I know I took a few extra minutes playing tug of war/fetch with Buddy this morning. I was otherwise rushed but he is worth it.

When my youngest boy was about 8 he said that Buddy was the glue that held our family together. Extremely cute for an 8 year old and profound beyond his years.

Buddy and Callie would have been best buds.

Sonny seems to be taking it well, thanks. When I came home on Sunday withoutr Callie and had her leash and collar in my hand he knew something was up because I had never come back without Callie, then again dogs as you know can read our feelings and i had bawled my eyes out on the way home. I sat on the floor to pet him and he jumped on me, put his arms around me and started licking me all over like never before. He seemes a little down at times but overall ok. When I came home for lunch yesterday after I let him out and brought him back in he was kinda looking around as if he expected to see her. I think it helps that I'm giving him more attention. I was also planning to take Sonny and Callie to a camp spot , the second place I ever took Callie camping (Mt. Graham in s. AZ about 10,000 ft elevation) in September when I have a week of vacation. I knew it would've been Callie's last trip and I woulda had to just sit around camp but now I'm planning to take Sonny to that spot himself and we will do the long hike that Callie and I did years ago...totally looking forward to that as it's been 4 years since I've gone...the longest stretch ever.

As crazy and high energy as Sonny is he has always had a totally mellow and sensual side, he can can have the most gentle personality going and I think he'll ease into that a bit more now. he is already showing it a bit. It's totally cool and great having two dogs but when there is just one that is when you really grow a bond with them and they with you...like right now he was waiting at the back door to come in for lunch. With Callie I always had to lure him in with a treat : o

So much Mojo!! your stories really moved me, I hope I'm lucky enough to live half the life with my new dog as you did with Callie.
