I came across this thread via Google. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a 2012 Epi 339 at a pawn shop for $220. It needed a new wiring harness. That was $40. It has Epi Probucker Alnico Classic pickups.
While the neck isn't as nice as my Gibson 335, it's not bad. I like thick necks. The Probuckers aren't bad either, but I'm considering rewiring it with a Burstbucker 1 and 2 set that I have on the shelf. This is a great $260 guitar. I'm not sure it's with spending $1500 on a Gibson 339.
I have a cherry EPI 339; replaced the nut, stock pickups and wiring harness and it is a wonderful playing, great sounding guitar. The pickup replacements were a used Guitarforce Lord of the Blues set:
