Help! Strings for a hollowbody?

Monson

So, I got that Gretsch that I'm extremely happy with. It came with Elixir strings and an extra set of .11s that I restrung it with, and it's perfectly fine. Sounds great to me, and feels great too.

Because I'm stupid I threw away the box, so I don't know exactly what they are. Anyone familiar with the brand, or would you recommend something else?

I'm not much help because I put D'addario XL strings on all my electrics. I use D'addario XT light coated strings on my acoustics.

Long ago, I took advantage of a killer deal on a bulk pack of DR Tite Fit electric guitar strings. They were bad strings that threw off the intonation on any guitar I used them on. I went back to D'addario and never looked back.

Several years back the ELectromatic 5120s and then the 5420s were all strung with D'addario XL 11-49. You could tell by the color coded ball ends.
These days I have no idea whats coming on them, but the XL 11-49s proved themselves to me. I still use the XLs on all my electrics, but for the guitars I now own it's either 9s or 10s.

I reread your NGD thread and see it's a 2005 so, probably doesn't matter what they are shipping new ones with. Where did you get your Gretsch from? Reverb? Local music store? craigslist? I would try asking whoever you bought it from.

Taking into account the kind of music you play a set of flatwounds might be a good choice.

See? I told you you're a lot smarter than me! I got it from a nice dude, and I still have his phone number.

Now there's a thought! Thanks!
