Dig it! VOM1T 5-22-14

Is Monday OK? It's a tournament weekend, and I'm refereeing seven games this weekend, plus working six hours at the Quakes game -- sort of limits my time!

Since it's a long weekend for the US I think Monday's OK

I am kind of counting on it. Last night didn't work out and I'm almost as busy today

I'm still hoping to get one in, too. I need to demo it for the band, anyway. Hopefully I can get the boy down for a nap before tomorrow's BBQ and knock it out.

I wanted to get back to doing the solo thing because I think it's really helping me out. I always admired people that could do a song solo and really sell it. I'd like to be one someday. (If I live long enough).

Love that song! Nice job!

Ok...I did one..and because Peeker said it was ok I sang too, but the volume is low because a) I only have one mic that can do acoustic/vocals and (b) my wife says I shouldn't sing so I'm not entirely sure how offensive this will be...Peeker's permission not withstanding.
And as typical I played it through 2x before recording without any substantial errors on my part and hit the record button and messed up the opening riff and the one of the lines (but you might not be able to hear it anyways...that was the cunning plan ). Singing does make it seem better to record than not singing I think...even bad singing

1st part of one white duck...don't play the rest often so am not sure of the lyrics. Hope it doesn't sound too bad. It's all I have time to even attempt this weekend

I enjoyed it.
I would have liked to hear the vocals more. What I did hear makes me think you don't need to be self conscious about singing.

Since you've all been asking if the songs I post are originals, I decided to post one. This is one of the new songs The Portable Forest will debut at our next show on June 6 at Gussy's Bar in Astoria.

I am just now getting around to hearing the entries. This is so nice.

HIAR - Bullet was a cool song that was nicely played. I liked Push the Edge; I hope you won't feel insulted if I say it reminded me of the best side of Neil Young.

Black Cat - Great Balls of Fire was a lot of fun; I loved the lead guitar sound. The solo tune was also great, you are getting good at the solo thing.

jamesp - Very nice playing and singing. I confess to some trepidation seeing it was a Springsteen song, but it is better than most of his "hits."

rsadasiv - That was so excellent with such a great blues feeling.

nuke_diver = I liked that. I would have liked to hear more of the vocals; what I could hear was good. Don't sell yourself short.

Maybe this is "cheating" but the closest thing I can do to the VOM1T deal this: a gig I did last weekend with my new looping setup lets me do what sounds like fully produced album-ish type sounds since I can store what I did on the actual looping device and then copy it via USB to my DAW.

I played an art-crawl type gig last weekend and was called upon to provide moody instrumentals for people perusing (and hopefully buying) the art:

What you hear is live, all built up from guitar sounds and looped. The drums are from filtered guitar noise, the bass is polyphonic octave divider, the "synths" are different types of clean processed modulated guitar chords that have been swelled and looped, and the lead guitar is sort of a fake David Gilmour thing so I could concentrate on keeping everything going.

Thanks for the encouragement BC and Gary. I'll try to get the vocals better next time (I pointed the mic at the guitar so maybe if I don't it might come through louder )
I think I don't know what key I can sing in, that song seemed easy so I guess it's one that I can (Ab I think)...maybe I sing flat so all the flat keys

Thanks guys! I might try singing next (oh Gods, someone stop me!)

Hey if I can cop0

When I first started singing, I really wasn't that good. I played guitar and sang some back-ip for my older brother Ken. The more I sang, the better my voice became. I have a limited range and always adapt things so I can hit all the notes.

Thanks, Gary. I always think it's interesting who people pull out as an influence on a song. I love Neil's acoustic work. And though I'm not sure that's what I would have said, i can definitely see how it's a reference point. And I'll definitely take the compliment.
