What are you currently working on?

Right now I am ONLY working on time (my pocket) and licks, lifting lots of solos and only playing music.
My playing was getting too sterile, from all the technique practice and it's time to clear out some of the robot.

Thats actually some of what I'm getting from the Galper videos. Some of the ideas he puts forth have made immediate changes and improvements in my playing. It's just going to take some months for me to really master a lot of the material though. I'm pretty excited about it. :)

It just makes sense Mark.

Practice 'music' all the time and you will make music when you play.
Practice scales all the time and you will ...

I spent far too long on technique. After all these years it is so clear to me now.
I'd rather be a less 'choppy' player, with better feel, than a chop freak with no feel.

To have both would be the bomb, but you need to define which one is more important.... Therefore deserving of more of your practice time.
I believe it is the musicality.

I think that "chops" will eventually happen to augment the musicality. The Galper "brain signal" thing. I'm just trying to hear better and make music at a more instinctual level at this point. My hands are catching up faster to my ears than when I was trying to do things the other way around.

This is pretty much my main goal right now..together with the timing issue that Jeremy talked about. At this point, I feel like my chops are "decent"..i.e. I can usually play what I hear (that's my definition of decent chops YMMV)..but I need to hear better, I need to trust my instincts more and I need to be fully committed to EACH moment that I occupy with my playing.

I think I'm on the same page, here... Rather than watch my fingers rip around and listen to what they happen to do, I'm focusing on hearing the notes in my head, and getting my hands to play what I really want to hear, not what my hands want to play...

I'm working on the last section of Jeff Beck's 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers' and two Robben Ford songs, 'Talk to your Daughter' and 'Help the Poor'. Two different styles, but more melodic than what I normally play. Sometimes it's nice to challenge yourself and add some new flavor to your playing.

Working on the bass part to The Break-Up Song. If anybody know it I could use a little help. Thanks.
