Who has this kind of money laying around to buy these guitars?

And if you have endless stacks available, is this what you'd spend it on?

Was in another forum and they had an add from Gibson for this guitar:

$24,999.00...

I can't figure out who's buying these. Famous professionals would get endorsements that would at least cover a significant part of the cost, but the more famous/influential the less they actually pay. "Regular" professional musicians would get lesser endorsements i(f any) and would likely get/buy far cheaper instruments, possibly ones they worry less about losing or damaging. This price makes a $3,499 Martin HD-28 seem like a bargain. And Martin has those one off guitars that they list at hundreds of the thousands...

The above is an extreme example, but Sweetwater regularly has PRS guitars in the $12K-15K that I can't imagine a regular musician ever buying at that cost. $10K plus Fender Custom Shop stuff (and others) obviously sells too, but again who's buying and actually playing this stuff?

My mind...it is boggled to the max.

Oof, that's pricey! Personally, I can see going up to *maybe* 5 grand...maybe. My record to date is $2800...although I just calculated for inflation and the $1700 I spent on my first PRS Custom in 1995 is the equivalent of $3499 now.

It seems like a lot of Les Paul guys are gigging with the reissues, so 6-8 grand...but the current Standards are so good that I personally don't see the point.

I think Gibson’s crazy guitars probably get sold to wealthy collectors in cultures that value different styles of design than westerners. In China and the Arab countries ornament is well received. And I’ve seen plenty of lawyers online who bought expensive Fender Custom Shop or PRS Private Stock guitars right after getting a six figure bonus.

Collectors and people into conspicuous consumption. The gated community and tricked out customized Cybertruck crowd. The people who buy a condo garage spot for their luxury sports cars.

These aren’t instruments for working musicians or regular players/hobbyists.

As for the less ridiculous custom shop shit, it’s stuff for white collar types doing retail therapy. A legit heirloom quality acoustic is going to be pricey, but a lot of the custom shop electric stuff is just vanity tweaks and gold plating.

I have a top of the line Fender production tele and it’s an incredible instrument. I’ve swapped out the bridge saddles for preference/performance. (It came with vintage style threaded steel.) And some day I could see myself getting a wild hair and swapping pickups or something, but by and large it was aces out of the box. The only “improvements” the custom shop offers would be cosmetic tinkering or super fussy spec tweaks. It’s not necessary but it’s also not my money so…

Some people have more money than I and like to spend it on expensive things. Most of them probably don’t play music for a living. It’s no skin off my nose.

It may shock you to learn that there are some folks who buy things sometimes simply due to the item being too expensive for the rest of us.
I'm not one of those people but I know a few of them. They like the exclusivity that high price tags bring & for them, it's not a financial burden in any way.

Oh, I already knew people were stupid and shallow.

Wait, does that mean that people don’t actually wear Patek Phillipe watches with hand engraved bezels painted with 36 colors of enamel by artists using a brush consisting of three hairs clipped from a free range sable?
