Hot or Not? yamaha revstar

I played one very briefly at the Sweetwater fest back in June. I thought it played very nicely, but I didn't spend much time with it as there was a kid wailing away (badly) on the Yamaha keyboards and I couldn't hear much.

I didn't think the neck was all that thin, either. Thick like a chunky LP neck? No. But not Ibby Wizard-thin, either.
 
Well, after this thread got me going again, I'm putting my MIJ RSP20CR on hold for now, and while doing a search for an 820, on the 12th page of Google searches I found this lovely Rusty Rat at £550 in a little guitar shop, ex-demo job.

I must be honest I will keep it for a bit but I want mainly to look at the overall design and the Dry switch wiring/circuit board, and that way I can most likely build own my own MIUK version with ebony board and stainless frets.

But the Rusty Rat is bloody gorgeous...NGD when it arrives, but teaser for now

Hope I'm not being too negative, but I've played 4 Revstars and came away very disappointed.

1 was in the Natick, MA (?) Guitar Center. It was not heavy, but in fact light. (tag said $599, not sure of the model). It felt ... flimsy? In terms of feel, resonance, etc., it reminded me a lot of mid-line Squiers. Yet it cost 2x as much.

3 more at the local M&P here in New Mexico. The two that had the same price range ($500-ish) were also unexciting. This store does decent set ups for wall guitars, so that wasn't the issue. They just did absolutely nothing for me.

Then I tried one that had a $700 price, and it was a really, really nice guitar. Solid. Great acoustic sound, good sound via DRRI. Anyhow, I'm a huge Yamaha fan so I went in expecting to like them, and did not.

I'd tend to agree. if you went in around the $700 mark then I'm guessing you went from the 720, ie flamey tops, Alnico pickups, the bigger neck etc.

I really only wanted the MIJ 20CR, but couldn't afford it, so went for a demo price 820, which is basically the same spec as the 20CR, but no hard case and made in Indonesia, and is a very, very nice guitar, but hey ymmv.

Where is this? Grandma's? I haven't stepped foot inside GC or Grandma's in forever.
