Your favorite song by . . .(Thursday, 4-15 Edition)

What did you listen to?

I listened to the tracks posted here, and some of top rated tracks on last.fm. I don't mean to sound like I'm putting it down. It's well done for what it is, but symphonic rock/metal just isn't my thing... the vocals, the guitar tones, the chuggity-chug chuggity-chug chuggity-chuggity-chuggity-chug rhythms don't work for me.

 Everyone has what they like :) I think it's cool someone checked 'em out.

Eh. I think a Pandora channel once coughed up a song by Savatage that wasn't half bad, but I can't remember the title. All in all a decent, but somewhat bland experience, imo.

I don't think I'd ever heard of them before Chihli posted one of their tunes in my string section thread. Not really my thing.

For my favorite, I may have to go with Wake of Magellan. That could change depending on the day of the week, or my mood, or the weather, but overall it's probably the one that gets me going "wow" consistently. The counterpoint at the end needs listened to 3 or 4 times before it really starts to get you but it's one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. Even better when heard in context of the whole album, as it is sort of the climax of the whole story.

Everyone really should give this a listen, particularly the end of the song. If you listen to nothing else in this thread, you should listen to this song from 2:45 on to the end IMO.

Agreed. My favorite of theirs, as well.

As a side note, see if you can guess what guitar amps were used.
