I tend to think less of adults who are picky eaters

The only food I can think of that I actually dislike is mayo based salads. I've gotten to the point where I can dig a little mayo on a sandwich or in a little cole slaw, but mayo based salads (egg salad is the worst one) I cannot abide.

Other than that I'll eat, or at least try, pretty much anything.

Now you've got me wanting some potato salad. :embarrassed:

I have no problem with fussy adult eaters as long as they plan accordingly and don't make the rest of the group suffer because of their dietary requirements/desires.

This thread is kind of coincidental. I dunno if you have a similar show int he states but in the UK we have a show called Come Dine With Me and by the grace of Allah, old repeats are on the TV here so I was watching one today.

Basically you take 4 or 5 strangers and each has to host a dinner party one night after the other, they score each others party and the winner gets £1000

The one today they had a Hindi woman who could only eat meat on certain days (2 or 3 out of the week) was pretty much vegetarian for the rest of the time, didn't do fish, didn't drink etc...

She basically made a massive fuss about what she could and would eat to the point I thought, wtf was the point of going on a show like this? Did she really expect the producers to draw up another 4 teetotal veggie pain in the arse Hindu's for the rest of the parties?!?!?

Had to lol at one point. She made a big fuss about buying in fruit juices for her party because "her house was an alcohol free zone" One of the first things another contestant found when they were doing the obligatory "nosey around" was a stash of wine.

"So what's with the wine?"

"Uh erm those are all presents I've received"

"Why would people buy you wine if they know you don't drink and don't want booze in the house?"

"Uh um eh pomegranate juice anyone?"

I was looking over the menu choices for the venue my sister is having my wedding at next year and there's major noms to be had but I can almost gaurantee that my brother will nip off to grab a mcdonald's or some junk from a local shop during the reception.

I love broccoli, like cabbage when it's in something, I like spinach especially in sandwiches, salads, or pizza.... but brussell sprouts... ugh. I've had them fresh out of the garden... I've tried them at restaraunts... just ugh.

Greens are one of those foods where it's either really good or really bad, not much inbetween.

I make a mean spinach/eggplant pizza. The eggplant is breaded and baked and soaked in wing sauce.

I'll eat just about anything, my girlfiend is a vegetarian though...

I had a kick ass spinnach and artichoke pizza from a little place called Pies & Pints last weekend.

I agree with 2man! Break out the horns and hooters!

And what's up with those dudes who won't eat tomatoes or anything that isn't pizza, burgers, and mac and cheese? I've encountered multiple grown men with the tastebuds of a fat toddler. WTF?!!? Men in their 50s who won't eat anything buy mommy's meatloaf and french fries.

...which pretty much means you're a vegetarian. do like a tasty boiga though.

re: eggplant

eggplant is one of those foods i'm extremely picky about. i don't like it in thick slices. i don't like a lot of it. but i'll eat it as part of something else, like finely chopped up in lasagna or thinly breaded in a parmigiana. but i would DEFINITELY try breaded, baked, and soaked in wing sauce.

in general, i am not a picky eater. i have certain foods. the aforementioned eggplant, i won't eat liver or pickled herring. i'm not a fan of quinoa, but i'll eat it. and i've recently decided not to eat anything that comes out of the Gulf of Mexico. which sucks, because i LOVE catfish. other than that, as long as it isn't chilled monkey brains or something, i'll likely eat it.

You'd think less of my wife then. That girl drives me nuts being so darn picky. She has gotten somewhat better over the years but is still prone to just turning her nose up at something without even trying it. It really is extremely frustrating, since I LOVE to try new foods.

The best way.... both hands around his throat.
my band in college was named "Artichoke Hold"

only part time, we feast on flesh when she is not looking :thu: However changing my diet even part time has lowered my blood pressure. :cheese:

the thing is.... ANYTHING thinly sliced, breaded, fried, and smothered in tasty sauce (particularly hot wing sauce )... then it's tasty.

"What are these? Aged water buffalo scrotum? Tasty!!"

Just to clarify, is the problem picky eaters or picky eaters who are jerks about it? As I said, I am vegetarian, but I don't make a big deal of it. I will ask about ingredients for some foods if it appears they might have meat, but I don't expect people to cater to my choices at family gatherings or similar events. I also do not expect others to conform to my choices.

I don't rate this as picky eating -- just like abstaining from alcohol or full-fat milk for health reasons ain't picky or keeping Kosher isn't being picky.

Picky eaters that are assholes about it. :thu:

I don't think any less of people who pass on certain foods because of religious, or moral, or health related reasons. Mainly people who have just decided that things are icky for arbitrary reasons. Like those people who love chicken nuggets, but wrinkle their nose at chicken on the bone. Or who eat beef, but wouldn't think of trying lamb.

1W has a friend who doesn't eat vegetables. At all. Not even lettuce. I don't get it. She weighs about 85 lbs but eats nothing but meat and starch. I think she's got some form of malnutrition.
