My big favourite this year would have to be the latest album from A Formal Horse ("Meat Mallet").
Really cool creative prog/avant garde rock band, happened upon them by chance in a random spotify playlist. Fantastic album.
Other than that I love the new Leprous album Aphelion. They've really developed their own thing the last few years, and the musicianship is insane.
Less metal than they were before, but I think I like their newer direction better.
McStine & Minnemann - II
Fabulous genrebending exercise from these 2 multi-instrumentalists. Marco's drumming never ceases to amaze me.
Released late last year, but took a few months until I got around to checking it out.
Also quite like the lastest ABBA and Transatlantic albums. They're good, although the Transatlantic one isn't quite up to the standard of their earlier ones.
