Baimun's "Oppenheimer" movie review:

Abut 15 years ago, John Adams and Peter Sellars made an opera about Oppenheimer, physicists, his wife, etc., set during the last few days leading up to the Trinity bomb test.

The opera was titled Doctor Atomic. Oppenheimer was performed by Canadian baritone Gerald Finley.

If I had to give a piece of opera to a rock fan to fall for, this would be on the shortlist.

Does he hate every chimp he sees from chim-pan-A to chim-pan-Z?

That’s a fine bit of opera. I saw it when Lyric did it years ago.

She’s a great actress. At some point she’ll pick the right serious role and win an Oscar.

She's been very good in many movies, thought she would get a nod for "Bombshell"... but Charlize Theron owned every frame of the movie she was in.

It’s very pretty. A lot of technical whizbang. Some of the roles were very well acted. But it’s a very silly film. I laughed out loud at several points—and this is a film with no intentional laugh moments.

And I get that this film was doing a very specific thing, but the script seems allergic to broader historical context.

And I’d love to know what Chris Nolan’s college girlfriend did to him because bro seems to have serious problems with female characters.

We were supposed to go and see Bombenheimer tonight but then we realised it's three hours and felt we weren't up to it.
