Do they have a uni in Chicago or is it just Urbana ? Cuz if so you’ll need to be onyer toes to wake up early and get those apartments looked at before the uni kids. Hopefully you can find something

The neighborhoods around Loyola are full of "cheaper"/available apartments but the stuff online is dominated by big management companies and large buildings I'm not sure I want to live in. Not counting on getting something but should be easier if I can find stuff that's rent by owner and/or isn't online.

It's two doors inside Harwood Heights, near Harlem and Foster. I've mostly been thinking Albany, Irving, Portage, Jefferson Park-ish for apartments but for shopping around this is near enough and more private/inclusive than every other place that wasn't super megabucks. I've been sorry I let an airbnb go that was more or less a garden apartment in Irving, but I hadn't been contacting people at that point and was less antsy.

Probably the best thing I've seen yet just popped up on craigs for Aug. 31 but I'm not going to get my hopes up at this point. I'm just going to assume it's specifically tailored for me to get my hopes up.

Okay. My family (what's left of it) is up that way. I know the area well.

Damnit, getting my hopes because I've gotten farther with this person than anybody and they seem pretty low key. No jinx.

Any must-eat, must-see, must-anything elses? I know I can fill my paprika euro snack hankering without going too far. Judging from all the Poles, I'd guess even the Jewel might have those.

Don't bother with Jewel. Rich's at Cumberland and Belmont is better and less expensive. It's an Eastern European supermarket with a great produce section.

Cool, saw Rich's while google mapping. Probably will be bothering with Jewel a bit though since it's just across the street. Last one here left 10-15 years ago maybe so it's been a while.

Howdy, neighbor! Hit me up when you get into town and we can chew the fat/cud/shit and I’d be happy to help you get things settled. I’m real close to HH and drive through there all the time as it’s on one of my commute routes. Depending on the address, might even be able to get you hooked up with laundry service if you’re interested.

In terms of eat/see/do, there’s a panoply of little neighborhood type joints all over the area that are short hitches from Foster/Harlem. It’s not too far bikewise to the beloved local landmark SuperDawg. You’re also not too far from picking up the north branch trail for biking which can get you all the way up to the Botanic Gardens in Highland Park. HH is also where far NW Chicago puts all its chain everything, so there are many brands to engage with. There a real no-fooling old school record shop at Harlem and Irving that still sells CDs and LPs and tee shirts and mugs and posters and porno DVDs which is fun for a trip to the recent past.

There’s also some Polish and middle eastern groceries in the area. There’s a Mariano’s in the brand belt at Lawrence and Harlemish. Lots of Eye-talian business on Harlem south of Irving, including a pretty solid wood fired pizza joint.

In terms of guit shit, Midwest Buy and Sell is at Irving just west of Austin. If you’re biking/up for a long walk, it’s doable. I used to regularly walk from my place to the Harlem corridor when I had time for leisurely strolls. Warning, you might bump into DKH or even the elusive BLOOZEHAMMER.

Knowing how much of a consumer Theodore is HH sounds right up his alley!

There are a lot of good restaurants up that way. Midwest Buy and Sell is a great place. Wayne is a great guy to deal with.

Far out. Will give you the number I just got that I can finally talk on for more than two seconds when I find out what it is myself. Place has a washer and dryer, so covered there. Microwave and fridge but no kitchen. Debating whether I should bring my ticking time bomb car and oft-used instant pot or pare down and take the train.

Any vegan chicago dogs? Good polish deli vegetarian items i won't know from adam? Want to have at least one good biryani during this stretch. Mini Devon in Springpiss trucked them in but they are no more. Saw a vid ft. Joong Boo Market that gave me a dumpling hankering. Seafood City looks like it would blow my mind too. Oh, and Mitsuwa.

Being near the north branch trail is pretty high up on the wish list, actually. Was talking trails with yabbler the other day.

I've got some GAS that really needs to be satisfied but it's for an accordion. Any leads there? I know there's a longtime shop but on the south side. Bought and returned one on ebay because it had some unmentioned issues.

Hoping long walks and bikes will be the main activity if my boutique toe and tailbone issues don't give me too much trouble. Was looking at divvy but it doesn't seem that practical for all-day use.

Eyes out for jealous loosers and warriors on music. Fletch magically appearing out of a wet fog.

Gonna have to forward this thread to the southern poverty law center with all this HH talk. :cop:

Clicking confirm or whatever on the airbnb was hard enough $$$. Aren't even any real airbnb coupons. Bad sleep debt cycle I'm in right now probably related. Would have been cheaper and far more preferable if a landperson would just intuit that i'm a dream tenant for their month to month basement and look past my does-not-exist black-ops style credentials.

That one I was just talking about looked really good photo and price wise and I was almost ready to come look at it today (Tuesday) but was less good on closer inspection. Hopes down.

I have one. It's only issue is, it's an accordion. Actually, I have no idea if it's "right" or, not.

My vegan ultrarunning samosa-obsessed mailman from Rogers Park will have some vegan dog recs - I'll ask him.

Real Devon is probably the best bet for the biryani (my favorite place was always in flux, but was Oberois (devon and bell) when I left - with the caveat that I almost never got biryani; I'm thinking one of the pakistani places might be the way to go; I liked Ghareeb Nawaz and Karachi Chat House)
