Achtung! Chicagotonians

99% of the time, any talk of crime is from 'Chicagoans' who actually live in the burbs and are frightened by people with skin that's darker than theirs. That said, I hadn't taken the L since covid started, and I have heard that there's been an uptick in crime on and around the train. I'm guessing the same general rules apply now that did back when I was a semi-regular red line rider - don't engage with the crazy/drunk/etc, don't fall asleep or get too engaged with your book/phone, look before you sit, etc. (standard 'big city's rules for anywhere, really - situational awareness yadda yadda)
If you can avoid particularly bad stations and late night that's good too

Pretty much what @yabba said. I ride the blue line here and there and it’s exceedingly safe. Biggest risk is when someone poops in a random train car and it becomes unusable. Also, since Covid ransom dudes just lighting up a cigarette and puffing away has been a gross new addition to public life.

The busses are also just fine and no one poops on them with any regularity, but bus waits are nuts with the current labor shortage.

Gonna need a lot of pep. Waiting for your aggressive northern storms to pass is adding to my sleepless timer.
they say crack, cocaine and meth are pretty good for peppiness also mountain dew code red and any "magnum" sized cans of energy

It’s been a minute, but Primatine Mist tablets are pretty clean burning. Also, some of the green kratom strains can be pretty alright.

Buhhhh. Here. Got off the pute too early to see your recommendation, Dr. Peen. I did the dew and a donut and cheetos/fritos.

Mostly good trip for 3-4 hours sleep late morning yesterday, despite a very painful postcript in a very inconvenient spot.

Still tired like I watched a big stack of DVDs. Walked to the Irving/Harlem mall via Mariano's for the one thing I remembered to pack at the last minute and then promptly forgot to take anyway even after returning two or three miles into the drive to make sure the door was locked. Hopefully the opened package of gummy bears I also left is not an ant colony now.

HH and Norridge definitely not my scene down to the street signs.

Oh yeah, not bad but I burned my finger taking the overhead light in the car out because I couldn't figure out why it was staying on after the doors were shut, even though I had shut the one door with a loosey goosey trim that you have to hold in place and knew it at the time but then forgot.

:annoyed:

Probably a bad dilithium crystal causing the light to stay on

What don't you like about it? Besides the fact that it's lily white and boring AF. On the bright side, there is a good German restaurant near you on Irving Park Rd.
