But you don’t really think is all that great

me:

Oreos - They seem to be everywhere here, including in icecream and milkshakes. Dry and flavourless. Poor man’s Wagon Wheel

Bacon - far inferior to pork belly in every way. And way too salty

Oatmeal - Last time I was given porridge to eat, I threw up. I was 8 years old. I hate milk anyway, but porridge is pure evil: first gloopy and lumpy, then cement

This is what I was talkin' bout in my thread....you had been given bad oatmeal. You need to get hold of one of the ones I mentioned and watch it closely whilst cooking (on the stove, no microwaving). Stop it when it's still a bit runny and always stir whilst it's cooking....NO MILK as it will be creamy enough if cooked right and using Coach';s, Scotts or Red Tractor. Just add some raw honey. It's oddly very good if you have been drinking the night before too , wouldn't think so but it is.

I suspect that me and Flamencology are gonna wear ourselves out with all the “Well, actually…” this thread is going to require.

Great sushi is all about the simplicity and elegance of presenting excellent ingredients at peak freshness in the best possible light with minimal bells and whistles. And the quality and preparation of the rice is super important.

There’s a lot of terrible sushi in the world. And a lot of ridiculous overdone stunt rolls. So it’s easy to see how it’s gotten a bad/bemusing reputation.

As for overrated foods, burgers. Specifically “upscale” overthought novelty pub burgers.

Oreos are truly terrible. I always preferred Hydrox cookies to Oreos when I was a kid. But like most things in this corporate world we live in, the brands that end up dominating our grocery shelves have nothing to do with quality and everything to do with a company's ability to monopolize distribution.

My approach to burgers is pretty much the same as my approach to guitars. If it ain't broke, you know.

But it's really a yin and yang thing, like you can't just eat burgers without getting a bit of fresh air first, like I would not go trekking and not finish the day with a burger. That would be immoral. Would disrupt this beautiful universe.

imho the best burger is just a plain greasy cheeseburger on a soft bun....nothing else and the cheese has to be melty

We could probably do a whole thread on burgers, but in the "food everybody raves about" category, I'm going to add In-N-Out Burger. In the fast food burger category, I would put them near the top. But in the general burger/food category, they're nothing to rave about.

Can't fix trash taste. I had a relative that lived on cereal, burgers, chicken nugs, and PBJ w/ the crust cut off. Every time we'd go to a restaurant on a family gathering, he would order off the kids menu.
